I Am #AliveAndThriving Today! || #IAmAliveChallenge || Daily Off-Grid Jungle Journal Entry: Day #414 - The Importance of Decentralized/Distributed Media Storage - GaiaYoga Gardens, Lower Puna, Far East Big Island, Hawai'i - Thursday, September 14, 2023
I live barefooted and naked, very close to Earth and Nature, in an 18-acre, off-grid, clothing-optional, food-forest intentional community (GaiaYoga Gardens), way out in the jungles of Lower Puna, far East Big Island, Hawai'i. I love my life, and I'm immensely grateful to live where and how I do, on my own terms! I would not want to live any other way! 😁🙏💚⚡💥🔥✴️✳️❇️👣🌱✨🤙
Warm greetings all! 😁🙏💚✨🤙
I sing the praises of our incredible Hive Blockchain Ecosystem every day here in my posts, as all of my regular visitors know well. With that deep admiration for Hive, I am also still aware of aspects of how our Blockchain Ecosystem functions that could be improved and made better. I talk often of the absolute necessity of decentralizing or distributing every aspect of Hive's functioning, to make it, and everything shared here, truly unstoppable.
In its present form, Hive is excellent for storing text data. This is not the case, however, with multimedia, like photos, images, videos, audio files, and the like. Media files like this are still stored on centralized servers (with the exception of 3Speak and the SPK Network), like PeakD.com or Ecency.com, and if those websites have issues, as happens somewhat regularly, the media files (usually images) become unavailable. This is a bit of a problem, and quite annoying when it happens. There are decentralized or distributed networks, such as IPFS (Inter-Planetary File System), which is designed for distributed data storage, which allows for the uploading, hashing, and storage of any data type, media or not.
I was doing some reading and research this morning on how IPFS works, and it sounds to me like a near perfect compliment to Hive, and could be used for back-end media storage. I download and installed an IPFS node on one of my Arch Linux installations today, and I'm in the process of learning how I would be able to upload all my photos that I use in my posts here to IPFS, and use those image links, instead of uploading them to PeakD or Ecency, which is how I've done it up to this point. This to me sounds like a far more resilient option.
I know that there are several individuals here who have already posted about using IPFS to complement Hive, and I'm still in the process of going through some of those posts, to see what I can do on my end to make what I publish as completely decentralized or distributed as possible.
My new IPFS node is running on a system that already runs a Bastyon, Qortal, and an LBRY node too, along with seeding the latest Arch Linux installation media via a torrent applicstion, so needless to say I work at the limit of my laptop and my network. I'm an experimenter who loves to support worthy projects! If I could run a Hive and a Hive-Engine node too, I would!
While the photos in this post are hosted on PeakD's website, those that I share in the future may soon be stored on the distributed IPFS Network. This rather excites me, as I love being able to integrate the functionality from multiple amazing projects into what I do!
After getting Hive to a good pause-point yesterday, and leaving the Flow House just after 3PM, I put my focus on various land-work tasks, including chopping discarded coconuts at the upper coco bar and dumping them around trees, helping Ano with a heavy pruning job on an ice cream bean tree, and doing some weeding in my Coleus beds.
I also spent a little time with Alexia, who used to live at GaiaYoga with me, and to whom I've given multiple sessions, geeking out on plants, and introducing her to my kitten friend. Once I finished working for the day, I took a shower, strained out kefir for my kefir-honey-cinnamon-cacao blend, made myself food, got food for my hyper-adorable kitten, then I headed back to the Flow House, to jump into my evening round of Hive catch-up and tasks.
While I did catch up fully, I wasn't able to get all my Hive tasks done before I got too sleepy, so I went to bed close to 1AM, and finished my tasks in the morning, in between playing with my kitten friend. It's now approaching my 2PM posting cutoff, so it's a good time to end this post for now so that I can get to my afternoon round of Hive catch-up and tasks. Hopefully I'll be able to go do some plant, garden, or nursery work later in the afternoon. I deeply appreciate you all! Until tomorrow! Onward and upward, joyfully together! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙
All photos were taken with my Motorola G Power Android Phone.
Thank you all so much who have helped me get to where I am today, and allowing me to share more of the beauty and magic from my life and my world with you, and for your continuous appreciation and support! I am truly deeply grateful! 😁🙏💚

Hahaha indeed nature is a beautiful thing I like what I saw
It sure is, and that's wonderful! Yay! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙
Lovely pictures and a whole lot of activities. To be top-notch on the activities on hive one needs to allocate certain hours broken down in the day I have noticed.
A job well done 👍🏽💕
Thank you so very much, Whitney! I appreciate it! Indeed, and I do my absolute best! Hive is more than a full-time job! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙
