Hello dear #Hive friends! I'm still obsessed with macro photography, so this post will be about macro photography. I have quite big gardens in my house so thanks to this I have a lot of material to take macro shots.

¡Hola queridos amigos de #Hive! Yo continúo en plena obsesión de hacer macro fotografías, así que entonces esta publicación será sobre ese tipo de fotos. Yo tengo jardines bastante grandes en mi casa así que gracias a esto dispongo de bastante material para hacer macros.

Yesterday while I was enjoying some interesting posts on #Hive, it started to rain heavily here. Then I realised that this was an excellent opportunity to go out and do some macro photography where I could take advantage of the presence of the remaining raindrops. So I set up my camera and attached my Tokina 100 mm Macro lens.

EL día de ayer mientras me encontraba disfrutando de algunas interesantes publicaciones en #Hive, comenzó a llover copiosamente aquí. Entonces me percaté de que esta era una excelente oportunidad para salir a hacer fotografías macro en donde yo aprovechase la presencia de las gotas de agua remanentes de la lluvia. Así que alisté mi cámara colocándole mi objetivo Macro Tokina 100mm.

As soon as the rain stopped I left my house and started wandering around the gardens with the idea of finding something interesting to photograph. Almost immediately I noticed the beautiful soft-lilac colored lilies whose petals were covered with raindrops.

Apenas cesó la lluvia salí de mi casa y comencé a vagar por los jardines con la idea de encontrar algo interesante para fotografiar. Casi de inmediato advertí los hermosos lirios de color lila suave cuyos pétalos estaban recubiertos con gotas de agua de lluvia.

Photo 01 on this lily was taken with the camera in manual mode and autofocus. If there is one thing the Tokina ATX-PRO 100mm f/2.8 d MACRO lens excels at, it is absorbing large amounts of light, even at apertures of f/8 and f/7 without needing to raise the ISO too much. And it should be noted that both this lens and my old DSLR are well past their first decade with me. So, despite the years, they both still do a good job together.

La foto 01 en este lirio la hice con la cámara en modo manual y enfoque automático. Sí hay algo para lo que es sobresaliente el lente Tokina ATX-PRO 100mm f/2.8 d MACRO es para absorver grandes cantidades de luz, incluso con aperturas de f/8 y f/7 sin necesidad de subir demasiado el ISO. Y hay que tomar en cuenta que tanto este lente como mi vieja DSLR ya han pasado de largo su primera década acompañándome. Entonces, a pesar de los años, ambos siguen haciendo un buen trabajo juntos.

However, the remaining lilies were in a somewhat darker location and the sunlight was poor, typical of the hours after these torrential downpours. So for the other photos (02 to 05) I modified the settings and decided to use the flash always underexposed at -1.3 EV. I liked the result of some of these pictures so much that I decided to save a predefined profile in my camera with these settings to use them in later macro pictures (Basically the flash setting as I said before, ISO 640, 1/320s and f/14).

Sin embargo, los lirios restantes estaban en un lugar algo más oscuro y además la luz solar era precaria, algo típico de las horas posteriores a estos torrenciales aguaceros. Así que para las otras fgotos (02 a 05) fui modificando los settings y decidí utilizar el flash siempre sub-expuesto a -1.3 EV. Me gustó tanto el resultado de algunas de esas fotos que, decidí guardar un perfil predefinido en mi cámara con dichos ajustes para usarlos en posteriores macro fotografías (Básicamente el ajuste del flash como señalé previamente, ISO 640, 1/320s y f/14).

I confess I found it hard to tear myself away from those lovely lilies dotted with droplets, but I figured there would be more interesting things in the garden and so there were.... For example, this photo 06 is something I was delighted to observe. It is simply a couple of wilted leaves floating in a puddle that was formed by the rain... Sometimes poetry is simple. I love that in taking photos.

Confieso que me fue difícil alejarme de esos encantadores lirios salpicados de gotas, pero supuse que habría más cosas interesantes en el jardín y así fue... Por ejemplo, esta foto 06 es algo que me encantó observar. Se trata simplemente de un par de hojas marchitas flotando en una charca que se formó con la lluvia... A ves la poesía es simple. Amo eso al hacer fotos.

This lens has a focal length of 100mm for full-frame camera purposes, but on my old DX-format Nikon D7000 that translates to 150 mm. Also the 30 cm working distance achieves a 1:1 macro ratio. Its sweet spot (it seems to me) is f/9, however the results at f/7.1 are just a little softer in terms of sharpness, nothing that affects the image, but it does help a lot in absorbing huge amounts of light from where there seems to be none.

Este objetivo tiene una distancia focal de 100 mm para efectos de cámaras de formato completo, pero en mi vieja Nikon D7000 de formato DX eso se traduce en 150 mm. También la distancia de trabajo de 30 cm logra una proporción macro 1:1. Su punto dulce (me parece) es f/9, sin embargo los resultados a f/7.1 son apenas un poco mas suaves en cuanto afilado, nada que afecte la imagen, pero sí que ayuda mucho a absorber ingentes cantidades de luz de donde parece no haberlas.

I must confess that I'm not a die-hard rain lover, nor am I the kind of person who usually delights in looking at the rain and writes a poem.... But I do love the atmosphere after the downpours!.... I love how everything seems to start to wake up after that.

Debo de confesar que no soy un amante acérrimo de la lluvia, ni soy del tipo de personas que suelen deleitarse mirando la lluvia y escriben un poema... ¡Pero sí que amo la atmósfera que hay después de los aguaceros!... Amo como todo parece comenzar a despertarse después de eso.

For me, abstraction is indispensable in this kind of photos. I usually make these macros in such a way that I don't have to crop them when editing. I'm a bit of a purist in that sense, because it seems to me that in a photo, when it has an abstract sense, the whole of its character must be captured on the spot. I tend to play with depth of field, going from one focal aperture to the other according to my instinct, as abstraction can be complemented by an out-of-focus background, as by a web of details and more defined elements. Everything happens as one encounters the image.

Para mi la abstracción es algo indispensable en este tipo de fotos. Yo suelo hacer estos macros de manera tal que yo no me vea obligado a hacer recortes al momento de la edición. Soy algo purista en ese sentido, porque me parece que en la foto, cuando posee un sentido abstracto, la totalidad de su carácter debe ser captado en sitio. Suelo jugar con la profundidad de campo, yendo de una apertura focal a la otra según mi instinto, pues la abstracción puede ser complementada con fondo desenfocado, como por un entramado de detalles y elementos más definidos. Todo va ocurriendo según uno se topa con la imagen.

In my street photography I usually use centre weighted light metering and keep +/- 0.00 EV, this gives me a good result there. But for macro photography in natural light, I am getting a better result with matrix metering and "playing" with values from -0.07 to -0.03 EV, there I have found it easier to get the histogram centred and have better results when exploiting the RAW processing.

En mis fotografías callejeras suelo usar medición lumínica ponderada del centro y mantenerme +/- 0.00 EV, esto me rinde un buen resultado allí. Pero para efectos de macro fotografías con luz natural, me está dando un mejor resultado la evaluación matricial y "jugar" con valores de -0.07 a -0.03 EV, allí he encontrado más fácil lograr centrar el histograma y tener mejores resultado al explotar el procesado de los RAW.

And speaking of abstract things! What do you think of this photo 14?.... It's nothing really strange, it's a plastic container which mother uses to irrigate her plants! 😂😂😂 I don't quite understand why this "evaporation" effect at the bottom of the container, but I loved it and that's why I took this photo and the following ones.

¡Y hablando de cosas abstractas! ¿Que les parece esta foto 14?... No es nada realmente extraño, ¡Se trata de un envase plástico el cual madre usa para regar sus plantas! 😂😂😂 No entiendo muy bien el porqué de este efecto de "evaporación" en el fondo del envase, pero me ha encantado y por eso he hecho esta foto y las siguientes.

Technical note: All the photos are captured using my NIKON D7000 camera, the captures are made in RAW format and then these files are processed using Adobe Camera Raw until achieving almost all the desired adjustments and appearance and then exported as JPG... Some secondary changes such as depth, straightening, minimal cropping and adding watermarks were made using PhotoScape 3.6.1.

Nota técnica: Todas las fotos son capturadas usando mi cámara NIKON D7000, las capturas se hacen en formato RAW y luego estos archivos son procesados usando Adobe Camera Raw hasta lograr la casi totalidad de ajustes y apariencia deseados y luego ser exportados como JPG... Algunos cambios secundarios como profundidad, enderezamiento, recortes mínimos y agregado de marcas de agua, fueron realizados usando PhotoScape 3.6.1.
