Hello Friends of Photofeed!

My photo contribution to the PhotoFeed Contest - Street Photography Round 19 shows a "shoeshine boy" in Tokyo offering his services beside the road but the term is missleading, because it's not a boy, it's an old man.

Japan has the oldest population in the world and between the ages of 65 and 69 one in two is still working. Emperor Hirohito's generation still lives by the doctrine of life is work and if you don't work, you shouldn't eat either. While some of the elderly work to be active in society, many have to work to make ends meet. Over 20% of retirees are considered poor. Japan pays hardly any social assistance and instead promotes working life in old age. Therefore, it is not uncommon to see older people like that shoeshiner at work.

Mein Fotobeitrag zum PhotoFeed Contest - Street Photography Round 19 zeigt einen Schuhputzer in Tokyo, der am Straßenrand seine Dienste anbietet. Der englische Begriff "shoeshine boy" für Schuhputzer ist irreführend, denn es handelt sich nicht um einen Jungen, sondern um einen alten Mann.

Japan hat die älteste Bevölkerung der Welt und im Alter zwischen 65 und 69 Jahren ist jeder zweite noch erwerbstätig. Die Generation von Kaiser Hirohito lebt immer noch nach der Doktrin, dass das Leben Arbeit ist und wer nicht arbeitet, soll auch nicht essen. Während einige der älteren Menschen arbeiten, um in der Gesellschaft aktiv zu sein, müssen viele arbeiten, um über die Runden zu kommen. Über 20% der japanischen Rentner gelten als arm. Japan zahlt kaum Sozialhilfe und fördert stattdessen das Erwerbsleben im hohen Alter. Daher ist es nicht ungewöhnlich, ältere Menschen wie diesen Schuhputzer bei der Arbeit zu sehen.
