Everyone Needs Some Vitamin Sea

I've never been a big believer in astrology. However I will admit maybe it's because I am an Aquarius that I've always had a deep love for water. When I was just a young child, I can remember loving long baths and playing with my toy boats for hours. In my teens I was always saving up for first a cheap aluminum rowboat with a 7.5 hp Gamefisher motor, then later an ancient trihull with a 60hp Chrysler Force. Then finally at 23, I finally bought my first new boat: a 17 foot Checkmate with a Merc. Those sure were some good times!

Of course through the years there have been many more boats that have drifted into and out of my life. I give that short history just to accentuate the point that I have always had an endearing relationship with water, either being on the water in a boat, or in the water swimming, or living at the water in a lakefront house. So as thoughts of planning a vacation come to mind, I try to pencil in at least some time around the water.

  • It's interesting that as the surf pulls out after a wave breaks along the sandy shore, many of these small white shell looking beings are left exposed. I did a Google search and found out that they are called coquina clams.

I hope these little buggers are happy in their lives, because it seems like a thankless task. It reminds me of the mythical character Sisyphus who in Greek mythology had to roll a rock up a mountain only for the rock to roll back down once he neared the summit such that he had to start over again. With these clams just about every time a decent sized wave crashes into the shore, they become unburied and they need to dig themselves back down only to become unburied again a few minutes later, over and over and over again.

Well I certainly enjoyed my time at the Surfside Beach relaxing on the sandy beaches of the Atlantic Ocean. There are always interesting things to see while walking the beach especially like this fiddler crab.

Of course my kids were out enjoying the surf. In my opinion they were out way too far and way too deep especially since I was looking out for the appearance of Jaws at any time!!! They are both well on their way in adulthood, but as a parent I feel it is, and will always be my obligation to be the ever Vigilant Guardian against any and all dangers.

We nearly always spent our summer vacations at the beach when I was growing up. Great memories and I have never gotten tired of seeing the ocean or feeling it wash up on my feet. When we were kids, we always swam in the ocean and occasionally something would touch your foot and you'd give a frantic kick for just a second and then carry on. Then I grew up and although I'll go in a certain ways, gone are the carefree days of swimming out for hours.

Enjoyed your photos. Glad you had a fun vacation.

I see what you did there. 😏
Great pictures of the sea! There is nothing quite like sitting and listening to the ocean water.
