A Visit to Chillon Castle in Montreux
I visited this Castle while I was in Switzerland. I visited this Castle in Montreux. More than the Castle the beauty around this place is something to be admired. It falls on the Geneva Lake side and has some most stunning views, where one side is the Lake and on the other side lush green mountains. The Castle is built with limestones which was the trend in the olden times. Limestones are weather resistant and they are dense and has much more strength hence you will see how these olden days structures still stand so strong and intact. It was built in the 11th Century, when you look at it you cannot believe that it's 10 centuries old. The Castle in those times served as a Military site because of it's strategic location. Initially it was a Roman outpost and then later on it became home to the Savoy, Bernese, and the Vaudois. Time and again there has been restoration work done here to maintain the place.
I took a bus from the Montreux station to the Castle, I was so engrossed in the sites around that I missed getting down on the stop and then I had to take a u-turn and come back again in the same bus :-). But it was nice, I did get to see the vast farmlands on the way and some nice country side scenes.
Sharing some pictures of the Castle

This is the Dining room. The traditions were different then, Individuality was not the norm. Food would be served in 1 big dish and then everyone would eat from that. In the Middle East region these norms are still followed and I could relate with it how the old traditions are still being practiced by some and changed by some.
One of the bedrooms in the Castle. Looking at it makes me understand that the last person using it must have been very short or may be a child, because the size of the bed is very small.
This is a wash basin. The pipes drainage system probably were not there in those times, so the water must be stored in the top shelf and then collected in the bottom one.
Come may whatever, art work was very important then and it reflects in every heritage structure.
Luxury was defined then also in it's own way. Rather I feel all the modern day luxury concepts come from the olden times, just with a modern touch and upgraded versions. A Bath tub of those times.
Can you guess what is this?
These are toilets...hehehe...they would poop here and it would go straight down where they had some kind of disposal system.
One of the rooms with art work on the walls.
The outside spaces
Some of the military weapons and costumes were stored in this place
Chillon Wine is also very famous. Some Wine Barrells. They were also selling the Wine in the souvenir shop.
Can you guess what is this?
It's a jail which was in the basement of the castle. So torturous, no wonder even these systems come from those times.
Some outside views of the Castle, As I mentioned, the location is something to admire.
Had a wonderful time visiting this place
Thank you for visiting my blog. 👼🏻👼🏻💖💖🌹🌺🌸
