Six Cygnets and their Proud Parents

I popped down to my village pond to check on the six little cygnets. They’re pretty vulnerable to predators and illnesses at the moment. They will be lucky if they all make it through the first few weeks. Thankfully, I found them sleeping next to their mum by the pond.

Just as I got closer, it started to rain, and all the cygnets snuggled under mum’s wing. You can just make out the little grey shape of one to the right of her wing!

Mr. Swan was on guard next to his little family. He checked me out by giving me a quick look.

He soon went back to his preening. He didn’t seem too bothered about people passing by, but he definitely went into high alert if he saw a dog on a lead!

They did go for another swim later on.

Many years ago, someone dumped a rubber tyre in the pond. It's been left there because the birds like standing on it. It is ideal for the cygnets.

It wasn’t long before they were back on land. I suspect one lap of the pond seems a lot when you only have little legs.

Some cygnets got back underneath mum and some climbed on her back. I left them to go to sleep.

Thank you. I have to wait my turn as there's a queue of people taking photos. 😁
