The most special Christmas Eve of Nick.
It was Christmas Eve. It was the first Christmas Eve when Nick was alone, away from his family. It was not that he wanted this. The situation in his country and the political reality made him leave for better.
This year he didn’t manage to make it home and he has already accepted his situation. It was going to be just an ordinary night for him, nothing special…
On the way back home Nick saw this new coffee shop, it was just opened a couple of days earlier. “The northern star”… what a strange name this was for a coffee shop, but he decided to get inside and buy some coffee beans.

He entered and the wide smile of the girl behind the desk welcomed him.
-Good afternoon! What would you like?
-Nothing at all, just came to grab some good coffee beans.
-How would you celebrate this evening?
-No celebration at all… My family is away, so I’m won’t be with them this evening. I’m just going to enjoy doing nothing. Maybe just brew some coffee.
-Do you want to go home?
-Of course I do. Who doesn’t want this?
-Then you should get these beans and Santa will take you home… as soon as you brew and enjoy the delicious cup.
-Santa? What do you mean? He, of course, is not real… But okay… I’ll buy these.
-Who knows… Christmas will bring miracles to us!
The girl handed the beans to Nick. He took them and left the shop. And all tha way back to home in his head were only the words “Christmas will bring miracles to us”… Who believes in miracles? Of course Santa does not exist. Everything bowadays is a marketing, and Nick was sure this was just the special phrase to get them sell these beans.
After Nick got in his rented flat, he went straight to the coffee grinder. Coffee was one of the few things that made his days better. When enjoying his warm cup, he was always alone with his thoughts and with the magical taste of the coffee.
Where is my family… do they think of me? Are they mad at me for not going back? Was I supposed to work more and make it possible to go home this evening? My parents would be very sad…
And with his head full of thoughts, he decided that it would be better to go to bed early this evening. He was so tired and he fell asleep in no time.

A distant shout woke him… he may have slept about half an hour and he didn’t knew who was this…
-Nick! Hurry up! The dinner is ready and you’ll better come here fast!
He opened his eyes. And he… he couldn’t believe his eyes. He was at home, in his small bedroom and his mother was calling him downstairs.
-Nick!!! Aren’t you coming?
He rushed downstairs. The table was set, candles were peacefully burning, there was a beautiful aroma of delicious food. All his family was gathered around the table and was waiting for him.
-But… mom… how is this possible?
-You better run and thank him for this.
She nodded at the door.
Nick ran outside. He couldn’t believe his eyes again. There was a sleigh on the road. Santa was just stepping in it. He smiled.
-Christmas will bring miracles to us! You just have to believe!
Nick stayed with his mouth open. He was speechless and the only thing that he managed to gasp was a silent “T-t-t-thank you!”
-This time of the year is all about giving, right? Merry Christmas, young friend!
After the sleigh disappeared in the dark Nick just stayed there and stared in the stars. This was unbelievable.
-Nick… Aren’t you coming inside already?
…
Happy holidays!
See ya!

The author didn’t mention anything about the location… so it can be everywhere! 😁

Very interesting story, I also want to get a moment to be able to return home from a distant overseas in a magical way. Apart from that it was a pleasant experience at least I didn't have to pay for transportation costs. ha ha
It’s always good to be back home!
