Our 5-star-hotel experience with the best coffee ever! A short trip for my wife’s birthday.

Hey, Cinnamon Coffee fellas’ how are you?

Today is not Saturday or Sunday and my weekly coffee post seems to be quite late, but in the weekend we travelled. I and my wife have a tradition that for her birthday we go to a spa hotel. It has become our passion to enjoy dofferent 5 star hotels in various locations in Bulgaria. It is only once or twice a year, but it feels great to pamper ourselves for at least a couple of days.

We departed at friday noon and had to leave our kids at their grandparents’ home, which is about half the way to our destination - Velingrad. All the kids were safely belted on the back seat, so it was time to leave.

If it wasn’t the quick stop to drop our little beasts, it would cost us a bit more than three hours to reach our destination, but now we needed about five. But hey… after all we were already free and could enjoy ourselves full time! Althoigh we always miss the kods at such vacations, it is pleasing to feel a bit more relaxed.

Our choice was a telatively new 5 star hotel, which opened about two years ago… or a little bit less. And although everything seems great, there is always the coffee at hotels. Our experience with the coffee at such places is always a nightmare, especially that free one in the room. The setting and the machine look fancy, but would they work at this new hotel?

The coffee was Spetema in doses. I cannot really remember a moment when I enjoyed this brand, but who knows now… I decided to give this one a try. I shouldn’t… I expected at least some kind of tasteless coffee, but it was awful. A lot more bitter and inpleasant than the vending machines where the coffee costs about $0,30 per espresso. Not good, not good…

But luckily… Mr Dosev is always prepared for the situation! My little travel setup always comes in the small pouch… AeroPress, manual grinder, scale and coffee, of course. I brought with me the 200 hours fermented coffee from Colombia and a nice and fruitful Honduras originating beans.

And what more can a coffee lover ask for… some peaceful time!

On rhe first morning I tried the coffee from the restaurant’s espresso machines and to be honest it was a bit better than the room coffee. Still unpleasant, though… I wonder why can’t the espensive hotels and restaurants invest a bit more into proper tasting coffee. I don’t ask for specialty coffee, but at least for something higher class, a bit more expensive and exquisite… but, I guess I’m asking for too much.

As usual, after the breakfast it was time for our specialty coffee. Of course, the fermented Colombian is wild, but Honduras Caballero is a great choice too. It’s been a while since I last bought a pack of these beans, but they are worth every penny.

A little compliment, after all the negative feelings about this hotel… Apart from the coffee, everything else was great and we also visited the little Pastry shop where they prepare all the cakes and sweets in house. My wife chose a cannoli and I went for a white chocolate Rafaelo cake. I almost never buy myself something sweet, but this time I decoded to make company to my wife.

It would be nice if we had some more days at this hotel, but two nighrs is all that we could afford, by time and by means. On Sunday it was time ti leave, and look at these beautiful landscapes at the mountain!

Getting the kids from their grandparents resulted in another late arrival at home, but we were all feeling relaxed and happy. We were relaxed with our little vacation and kids were happy with the stay at their grandparents.
