Contrasting India
Hail to the Hive!
As I am sure many of you do I was spending some time sifting through my recent shots and deciding what to do with some of them and then just got sidetracked and went down a rabbit hole of messing about with some of the images and this is what I came up with.
What I have done is showcase 3 different images of each shot. Colour, colour splash & black and white. I will leave it to yourselves to decide which works best with each image and I , of course, will say which I believe works as well.
The above is a typical Indian night time street shot with a yellow tuk tuk in the foreground.
And this is with colour splash.
And of course b&w. I felt either the colour or black and white works in this case bringing a nice vibe of night time. Leaning towards the monochrome with this one.
Now this is in complete contrast, a shot taken in the beautiful Andaman Islands on Neil Island. Lovely soft morning light colours.
The colour splash works nicely with this shots using hints of yellow.
And in this case the black and white offers the least of the three to my mind. Usually b&w will create a mood where one is lacking in an image but I feel it does the opposite here.
And another busy street shot crammed full of everything that can catch the eye.
The colour splash works with this one enhancing the yellow in everand drawing your eyes to it.
And the monochromatic shot is full on moody! A toss up between splash and monochrome for me with the colour working the least well of the 3.
I would love to know which you all prefer and why. It’s always fun to squeeze something out of the images we capture and make them into more.

Hail from the Hive! If I look at your photos it feels like the invention of colour photography was futile. I had this thought at one of your recent posts. While the colour splash gives a beautiful touch of life to those memories. From old family photography I often see memories from the past in b/w before my inner eyes. As if life was just black and white. And then I try hard to imagine what it must have looked like in colour.
I like your flavor with 1-colour, 2-b/w, 3-splash. Yet if I had only one choice it would all be b/w.
