A Grain of Grein

My final day in Austria turned out to be the best one in terms of weather and overall vibe. The first day was a bit weird, despite getting to Salzburg and visiting some nice attractions. The long road and the fact that I haven't left the country since 2019 made it feel peculiar.

The following days brought a good amount of rain and haze, turning into a combination that didn't encourage spending much time outdoors. However, Sunday was awesome. I spent my last day in Austria visiting the town of Grein, a small and very coquette place by the Danube River.

It's the same river that passes by my hometown, although the stream of the Danube is a bit wider here compared to Austria. The water has a faster pace there, with boats sailing effortlessly with the flow, while those pushing against the current struggled to make their way up.

As for Grein, there's not much to say because I didn't spend too many hours there. The weather was perfect, but my outfit was totally inappropriate for that weather. With temperatures around 8-9 degrees Celsius, I was wearing boots, a decision I made after enduring days of wind and cold.

We only explored the side of the town close to the Danube, and the experience was pretty nice. There were quite a few decks stranded along the shore, but no cruise ships were anywhere to be seen. I guess they're in business only during the summer. There were a couple of boats that probably belong to the "water police," but other than that, nada.

Ducks greeted people walking down the alley, along with a goose and a couple of swans. The water was so brown, much dirtier than what I'm used to at home, probably due to heavy rain and snow melting.

I've seen portions of the Danube all the way from Germany to Romania, where it meets the Black Sea and becomes one with it, except for Hungary. I haven't seen the Danube in Hungary because I haven't visited there yet. Maybe next year, who knows.

Although my visit to Austria in the winter showcased some beautiful places, I've heard they look even better and are busier during the summer. I'm planning to go back to Austria in the summer, particularly to that orange restaurant from the pics in this post. I've heard they have good beer and a really nice view.

That's it for now from my side. I wish you all a great day, and see you next time.

Thanks for your attention,
Adrian
