Sometimes The Setting Just Isn't There

I've been getting out more lately capturing the countryside with my drone, with yesterday's weather giving off a very nice spring atmosphere. Clear blue skies, relatively warm despite a bit of cold wind rolling through the hills as the sun began to set. With similar weather today, I found myself patiently waiting for a sunset that didn't really come. Having charged up my batteries but only flying the drone for about a minute. I waited for a while as the darkness began to roll in, keeping an eye on the sky in case some nice gradient tones began to spread.
Relatively quickly it got dark, and with that short drone flight I realised that the setting today was just not present. A blue sunset, with the orange only being visible far off into the distance and without a cloid in sight from the ground view. I looked around with the drone in search for subject and just didn't find anything. Instead trying to rely on the trees to see how a silhouette may seem with the sunset far off in the distance. To be honest, I feel none of this really worked out well. But that's how it is to do photography: sometimes things just aren't meant to be. Poor lighting, lack of subject, the wrong equipment. Or perhaps even just you yourself not quite feeling it that day. Sometimes things pop up that just result in the attempts falling flat.
But it's still fun to get out and try, getting the fresh air, seeing how these limitations may impact your creativity as you search for a solution. In my case, it was using the trees. I'm hoping tomorrow will be another day of decent weather and provides a bit more support in finding things to shoot. But I'm open to the idea that the weather may take another boring turn and grow dull and void of colour and making photography a bit more of a challenge. Lately I've focused a bit more on subjects on the ground, with a perspective from above. Today I figured it might be a good day for sunsets, well, it just wasn't. Oh well!
I've had many days like this, and a fair share of photographs and attempts that just didn't turn out the way I would have liked. I often scroll through them to see what exactly went wrong, and what could have improved them. That's the only way to learn and improve, after all!

Lovely balance of the fading sunset and the darkness of the night.
Thank you!
Fck, saw this yesterday and didn't press reply.
Nice pics! I love how the sky is getting that color degradation as it is further away from the sunset.
Thanks! I was hoping today would be a bit better for photography but it ended up being incredibly overcast. Classic England! ;^)
