In Bird watching on the bay, my most recent post for the Photography Lovers community, I mentioned the osprey nest on Paulson Road in my hometown of Hoquiam, Wash.

I've been visting and photographing the nest for four years now. This trip (taken just last week) was somewhat uneventful, since I only caught one of the ospreys perched atop the light pole ... and all it did was pose nicely for me. :)

But with some extreme cropping I have a couple closeups to share that really show off the raptor's lovely curved beak and talons.

The final shot of this series is of a turkey vulture. There were half a dozen vultures feasting in the field behind the osprey nest (perhaps on something the ospreys abandoned or dropped? I couldn't see.). At some point as I adjusted positions I disturbed the feed and they circled overhead to check me out.

Osprey nests are such interesting constructions projects. I've seen platforms that were built for them to nest on, when there wasn't anyplace appropriate left.

This nest has been there for years. The Port of Grays Harbor has development plans for that land where the light pole stands, and it is interesting that the pole is considered in the environmental impact study for that development. I'm glad it is and I hope they maintain that home for them, since they are nesting there all the time.
