TEN RANDOM SHOTS FROM THE BLACK & WHITE WORLD
In this long exposure shot taken at dawn, you can see a stretch of coastline about ten kilometers from where I live.
This is a grasshopper nymph. A pretty big, well-developed nymph that will fairly soon become an adult grasshopper. The name of the species is Anacridium aegyptium.
Here you can see a trio of small chimneys on one of the houses in my hometown. After desaturating the picture in Photoshop, I played a bit with various options and decided to include a simple "invert" edit in the post.
This portrait of a storefront mannequin was photographed somewhere in the city of Pula. I had only a small, not very good compact camera at my disposal. The picture ended up blurred and far from perfect, but that clumsy result also has its own charm.
This silhouette of a tree was photographed in my hometown, not far from my neighborhood, early in the morning.
The ghostly silhouette shown in this photograph it's an autoportrait. The camera was on the tripod and I was posing behind the blurred glass.
Here you can see one of the windows on the Church of St Agnes, the biggest church in Meduin, my hometown.
In this grainy shot taken late in the evening, you can see some chimneys in my neighborhood. Just across the street from my house.
Here you can see the sunset through the leaves and branches of the shrubs in Marlera, a stretch of coastline near the village of Liznjan, four or five kilometers from where I live.
These reeds were photographed by the side of the road between Medulin and Pula, the nearest city. A couple of kilometers from the suburban neighborhoods of Pula. And that's all for today. Hope you enjoyed this tour through a collection of old random stuff
In this post, you'll see (or you saw a minute ago, maybe) a bunch of random stuff photographed long ago in color and then turned into black & white today to get along with the title of this thing that will be published soon. I could never make good black and white photos so I stick to coloured photos. Perhaps I should learn to do something different.
True 😆 I almost asked that mannequin permission to photograph it because looked very much alive.
In black and white you must pay more attention to light and the shapes and contrasts it creates. Many scenes that have a pleasant combination of colors to make the photograph good won't look good in black and white. Just watch the light, the interplay between lit and shady areas, and stuff like that, and you'll get a good black and white with a bit of practice. You can start with silhouettes, they're the easiest. Also, the composition of the shot must be clear, without the colors things get easily more chaotic and hard to recognize than with colors.
Thank you so much for your kind and detail guidance. This is completely new information to me. I will have to memorise this so that I could enjoy taking black and white photos. I need to have a different mental perception to make this work for me. I used ti take portrait of friends in black and while studying in college many years ago!

Your work as a photographer inspires me to take pictures, even though I don't have a good camera I really like it, I hope someday to take pictures as beautiful as yours, my favorite is the first one, with the black-white effect it looks like a picture that was taken above the clouds, or that was my first thought hahaha, after I read your post I realized it was a coast and that my idea made no sense, as if you were going back to take pictures above the clouds.
