A day at the zoo Amersfoorts Dierenpark
Today our daughter asked us if we wanted to join her and our grand daughter for a visit at the local zoo .
It has been a long time since i visited this one probably +/- 25 years ago .
And since we live around the corner we decided to take a subscription for a year meaning we can go when we want even if it's for a short time .
Today i brought 2 cameras with me but ended up using only one , all photos are made with the Sony A7IV camera and the Sony 24-105mm F4 G OSS lens .
for more info about the zoo check their website : https://dierenparkamersfoort.nl/
You can find this zoo here : https://maps.app.goo.gl/3icWraaxe3WJ2RWf7
and that is also my first photo of the zoo , the entrance to the zoo .
1 )

2 )There are several bronze statues throughout the park , this one was standing at the bear retreat .

3 ) next to this white flowering shrub looks a bit like a rose but i don't think it's a rose.

4 ) The bear it self was sitting behind glass and with all that sunlight not very easy to get a decent photo .

5 )the bear didn't look to happy either.

6 )i always enjoy the garden of a zoo if it's well maintained .

7 ) A plaquet for the 35 anniversary of the park , they started back in 1948 after World war 2.

8 )This snow owl was yelling like a barking dog

9 )And then it moved to one of the other owls in the cage

10 )flapping with it wings , my guess is that it's a young one and the other owl it's parent.

11 ) this one also in that cage didn't move a musle besides twisting his neck.

12 )Although on the calendar it's still winter here today it was +/- 15 degrees Celcius aand a nice sunny day for a walk in the zoo.

13 ) A bird from South-Africa forgot it's name so we will call it JIMMAYYYYY!

14 )There was also a small train track through the park that you could ride , but today i prefered to walk instead.

15 )meerkats smal creatures very cute to watch how they guard the area.

16 ) Another bronze statue of a tiger

17 )the other side of the statue

18 )two rhinos and not a stretched limo one

19 )two rhinoseating side by side

20 )a very small crocodile

21 ) three Italian donkeys from Sicily

22 )two Jackdaws watching the donkeys

23 )harsh sunlight on the liones

24 )watching the troops / cubs

25 )mother and daughter i assume

26 )and a male lion also in the cage

27 )they were nicely behind a glass wall

28 )walking underneath the lions retreat

29 )decoration plaque reminding us of the lions in the arenas back in the days of the roman empire.

30 )info sign about the lions

31 )Look another monkey in the water , and he is ugly too . .

32 )Every family has one i guess :)

33 )where to go next ?

34 )flowering dafodills

35 )and also flowering snowdrops

36 )flowering laurel i guess

37 )The elephant retreat, this one was eating the hay that had been hung high in a net.

38 )one male elephant marching the ground

39 )dinner for two it is

40 )pretty red berries could be used for christmas decorations.

41 )cute little prairie dog

42 )another prairie dog

That was it for today , there will be more later this year when we visit the zoo again.

I am sure your grand daughter became so happy))) Looks interesting even for me)
yes indeed , she is 3,5 years old and wants to know everything already
Absolutely wonderful!!! My favourite lions and owls!! I love them!!
thank you the owls reminded me of Hedwig from the Harry potter movies
It's true!!! And they're great!
Such beautiful place. The bear seems to be grumpy and quite up in age 😊
Lovely day!
not just the bear also the photographer 😂
How curious the way that female lioness was standing with her front paws crossed and one of the monkeys was lying against a rock hahaha... I also found all that daytime activity from the owls interesting, by the way.
Most of the animals are born and raised in captivity these days , i doubt they would even survive if you would set them free .
as for the snowowls there habitat is far up north even for me and they don't hunt at night.

Zoos are controversial places, as animals should live in the wild. However, they are the only opportunity we city dwellers have to see the wonders of biological diversity in person. The last time I went to a zoo, quite a few years ago now, the animals were not as well cared for as they seem to be here. My favourites are owls; I love how the one in the photo closes its eyes, hehe, so cute. And the ones that have fascinated me are the rhinos, they look like stone statues!
For the small country that we are we have a lot of zoo's , with the one in Amsterdam being the oldest of our country dating back to 1838. I used to go there a lot for school , because they also have a botanical garden. Funny we object about animals being captured but we are fine ifg they show us plants from all over the world 😜
Wow, almost two centuries of history at the Amsterdam zoo is a very long time. You're right, no one remembers plants that are also far from their natural habitat... I hadn't thought of it! 😂
