Monomad - Seaside Plants in Istria

Hello and welcome back to all Hive friends and Black & White enthusiasts. For today's theme, I chose plants at the seaside of Istria. When you walk along the coast in Istria, plants are everywhere. Some grow from cracks in the rocks, others spread across dry ground, and many live in pots outside stone houses. Together, they create this mix of wild and homegrown life that feels completely natural to the seaside.

The local plants have learned how to survive here. They handle the wind, the salt, and the strong sun without much trouble. Small bushes, herbs, and dry grasses grow where nothing else would. Sometimes you pass by rosemary or sage and catch their smell in the air, mixing with the scent of the sea. It feels like a reminder that nature is doing just fine on its own.

But not everything here is native. You often see agaves with their thick blue leaves, standing tall above the rocks. Cactuses show up in unexpected places too, quiet and strange but somehow fitting right in. Around some houses, there are palms and succulents brought from faraway places long ago, yet they look like they’ve always belonged. That mix of local and foreign gives the coast a special charm, something that feels both familiar and different at the same time.

Even the smallest garden tells a story. Old clay pots hold geraniums that probably came from someone’s grandmother years ago. Ivy climbs over walls and hides in the corners of the yard. Sometimes you notice a plant you can’t name, but you stop and look anyway. Everything grows together, in its own quiet way. Nothing tries too hard, it just finds a place and stays.

If you walk by the sea, take a closer look at what grows around you. Between stones, beside paths, behind small fences. Every plant adds a little piece to the whole picture. It’s nature mixed with memory, shaped by people, wind, and time. Just like Istria itself, it reminds you to slow down, breathe, and let things grow where they want to.
