Knick knacks Vol.3
Hello and welcome back my #monomad friends. It is a lovely sunny day out there, but before I jump into it, I will share with you some black and white. Today's topic is knick-knacks, so-called a bit of everything. It might look like random stuff, but there is a red line connecting everything. I am thinking about how good they look in black and white. After all, that is the only thing it counts. If you are a fan of this topic, please check my first and https://peakd.com/hive-142159/@wnfdiary/knick-knacks-vol2second posts.
Let's start with the Olympia typewriter, which was a popular brand of typewriter manufactured by the Olympia Werke AG company, founded in Berlin, Germany in 1903. The company produced a wide range of typewriter models over the years. Mostly these machines were known for their durability, precision, and high-quality craftsmanship. Many writers, journalists, and office workers favored Olympia typewriters for their ease of use and reliable performance. I can hear the picture, what about you?
This one is coming from Japan. It's a samurai helmet, also known as the kabuto. It is a type of helmet worn by samurai warriors in feudal Japan. It was an essential piece of armor that provided protection for the head and neck during battles. Samurai helmets typically featured a distinctive shape with a curved or pointed crest at the top, which was often adorned with elaborate decorations such as horns, crests, or even animal motifs. The helmet was made of a combination of metal plates, leather, and silk, and was often decorated with intricate designs and symbols. One interesting fact is that every helmet was custom-made for its owner and was often personalized with the samurai's family crest and other symbols of rank and status.
This one is a mystery to me. At first, I thought it is a Sphinx, but then I realized it has a horse's body, not a lion's. So it might be My best shot was even Centaur, but those don't have wings. After some research, I found Buraq – A creature from Arabic iconography that has the head of a man and the body of a winged horse. On the other hand, there is also Anggitay – A strictly-female creature that has the upper body of a human with the lower body of a horse. Sadly, not a single one convinces me, so it is still a mystery.
Must have for every garden, I guess. This is classic metal foldable chair. The history of metal folding chairs can be traced back to the 19th century when various types of folding chairs were developed for outdoor use, military camps, and other settings where space was limited. I am not sure about the origin of this one, but I know which are the most famous chairs in this section. These might be the "Samsonite" chairs, which were introduced in the 1950s by the Samsonite Corporation. These chairs were made of lightweight aluminum with a simple, streamlined design. I think the design is contemporary and can be included in many design situations.
This is an ornamental piece made of animal horns. My best shot with this one is Antelope horns or even more likely addax horns. The addax, also known as the white antelope or screw-horn antelope, is a critically endangered species of antelope that is native to the Sahara Desert in North Africa. If the horns were found in the wild, I can tolerate this, if they were poached just to make this, I am totally against it. No animal should die for ornamental purposes!
Stay blessed
