Lens in Drops - My Monomad Entry.

avatar

Hivians good morning, today we're back to sharing a little passion for photography, more precisely the Black and White style, for my entry to the BlackandWhite community's #monomad challenge.

Every day, or almost, when I wake up when I open the windows to let in some light, if it's not too cold I put my succulent plants on the windowsill, which I keep inside at night because the freezing temperatures could damage them. Every now and then you give it a drop of water, but always little otherwise it would rot the roots, and that's where I had my idea to create suggestive images. I remembered summer mornings, when the humidity of the night settles on the plants, covering them with droplets that reflect the sunlight, so while I was giving the plants a drink, I dropped a few drops on the leaves to create some against-light photos, where I went to focus the reflection of the water drops.

To create these images I used the manual directional focus mode, where you adjust the focus in a small point of the image, ignoring everything else, but looking for maximum detail in a very small content. The difficult thing in this circumstance is to keep the hand still, because photographing without a tripod and looking for a tiny detail becomes quite complicated, even if the intense contrary light helps to obtain better definition on the drop in question.

But the most surprising thing, even if I could have expected it as an amateur photographer, I saw when I was developing the RAW digital negatives, the opposite image was reflected in the drop upside down, as actually happens in a reflex camera looking inside the lens, the drop of water photographed against the light worked like the mirrors inside a camera, I found it fascinating, above all for the fact that I only realized it during development.

But despite the beauty of these technical similarities, I think the most beautiful thing is the effect that the imagination brings us, this drop reminds me of those half glass spheres with landscapes or monuments inside that are given to children, which when you shake them create the snowfall effect.

I also publish these two whole images of the photos I took, to better render the dimensions of the photographed drops. For each drop I took a single photo just for it, this because using the directional focus mode, I worked on each single drop, one at a time.

The most meticulous work was during the development of black and white photographs, where having captured very small fragments of photos, the black noise was very evident, but by adjusting the fading and noise removal, I managed to obtain images sharp enough even in small details.

Surely my 50mm lens is not the most suitable for macros, in fact I would love to buy a long range lens one day, especially to capture photos of wild animals in the nature.

That said, we have come to the end of the post. I hope you enjoyed these photos and my work today, thank you for your time, I wish you a wonderful day, a hug from your @stea90.
