Heroes are usually made squares in their honor, that is something we see everywhere, sometimes they are huge places, sometimes small. Some are more beautiful than others, and also, it must be said, some spaces fall into oblivion.

A los héroes se les suelen hacer plazas en su honor, eso es algo que vemos en todas partes, a veces son lugares enormes, otras veces pequeños. Unos son más bonitos que otros, y también, hay que decirlo, algunos espacios caen en el olvido.

Antonio Ricaurte, a military man born in Colombia on June 10, 1786, is a hero of the Venezuelan War of Independence.

The story goes that on March 25, 1814, in order to prevent the royalist troops from seizing a gunpowder deposit in Bolivar's hacienda in San Mateo, he set fire to it, which caused a huge explosion that killed him, in short, he immolated himself for the cause of independence.

La historia cuenta que el 25 de marzo de 1814, para evitar que las tropas realistas se apoderaran de un depósito de pólvora en la hacienda de Bolívar en San Mateo, le prendió fuego, lo que causó una gran explosión que lo mató, en pocas palabras se inmoló por la causa independentista.

People like him deserve a tribute such as this square in his name, don't you think? But the condition it is currently in is one of almost total abandonment.

Personas como él merecen un homenaje como esta plaza en su nombre, ¿no creen? Pero el estado en que se encuentra actualmente es de abandono casi total.

And I say almost because if it were not for the community that sometimes organizes to clean and fix what they can, the abandonment would be total, apparently the municipal authorities do not care about this public space and the hero, it has many years without proper maintenance.

Y digo casi porque si no fuera por la comunidad que a veces se organiza para limpiar y arreglar lo que puedan, el abandono sería total, al parecer a las autoridades municipales les da igual este espacio público y el héroe, tiene muchos años sin mantenimiento apropiado.

I read that this square is over 40 years old, some of its structures look like they have not been changed, they reflect that age.

Leí que esta plaza tiene más de 40 años, algunas de sus estructuras parecen no haber sido cambiadas, reflejan esa edad.

This is especially noticeable in the playground and other recreational areas.

Esto es notorio sobre todo en el parque infantil y otras áreas de esparcimiento.

In a little more than a month there will be mayoral elections in Venezuela, in these cases sometimes they take some places like this one and fix them in record time to make electoral campaign, will they choose this place now, or will they take it into account later?
