Greetings Hivers,

A few days ago, while walking through El Vedado with a good friend, we almost without thinking stepped into a true concrete labyrinth. A complex monster and at the same time an everyday one, a silent icon of Havana’s Vedado. The Arcos Building.

For many people it is nothing more than a shortcut between streets, a place you cross quickly without paying much attention. However, stopping for a moment is enough to realize how unique it really is. Built by taking advantage of a natural depression in the terrain, the building adapts itself to the hollow in an unusual way, creating corridors, staircases and levels that seem to follow no conventional logic. Everything feels raw and functional, yet full of character.

Despite its precarious condition and the relentless passage of time, the building is still alive. People crossing it every day, residents who inhabit it, and a peculiar architecture that makes it a very attractive space for photography. Walking through it slowly becomes an exercise in observation, as every corner offers a different texture, line or scene.

Today I want to share with you a small series of photographs taken there. A personal approach to this place, so frequently used and yet so rarely observed, where wear and form tell their own story.

Hace unos días, caminando por el Vedado con un buen amigo, entramos casi sin pensarlo en un verdadero laberinto de cemento. Un monstruo complejo y a la vez cotidiano, un icono silencioso del Vedado habanero. El edificio Arcos.

Para muchos no es más que un atajo entre calles, un sitio por donde se pasa rápido sin mirar demasiado. Sin embargo, basta detenerse un poco para darse cuenta de que es un lugar muy singular. Construido aprovechando un desnivel natural del terreno, el edificio se adapta al hueco de una forma poco común, creando pasillos, escaleras y niveles que parecen no seguir una lógica tradicional. Todo resulta crudo y funcional, pero también lleno de carácter.

A pesar de su estado precario y del paso implacable del tiempo, el edificio sigue vivo. Personas que lo atraviesan a diario, vecinos que lo habitan y una arquitectura peculiar que lo convierte en un espacio muy atractivo para la fotografía. Recorrerlo con calma se vuelve un ejercicio de observación, donde cada rincón ofrece una textura, una línea o una escena distinta.

Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes una pequeña serie de fotografías realizadas allí. Un acercamiento personal a este lugar tan transitado como poco mirado, donde el desgaste y la forma cuentan su propia historia.
