T he cure for all ills… that’s what they tell me at home when they see me grab my Nikon D200 and my backpack to head out.	E l bien que alivia todos los males… así me dicen en casa cuando me ven agarrar la Nikon D200 y la mochila para salir a la calle.

MI TERAPIA / MY THERAPY

And there’s some truth to that. There are days when the stress gets to be too much—with everything going on in this beautiful country—and the only thing that really helps me unwind is going out to take photos.	Y algo de verdad tiene. Hay días en los que el estrés se hace pesado, por todo lo que se vive en este bello país, y lo único que logra bajarme las revoluciones es salir a hacer fotos.

LOS 40 KM Y EL CAFÉ / THE 40 KM AND THE COFFEE

First comes the journey: almost 40 km by bike, because there’s no train anymore. I arrive in Havana tired, grab a good cup of street coffee… and that’s where it all begins.	Primero viene el viaje: casi 40 km en bicicleta, porque ya no hay tren. Llego a La Habana cansado, me tomo un buen café callejero… y ahí empieza todo.

ENFOQUE EN LO VISUAL / FOCUS ON THE VISUAL

Suddenly, my problems fade into the background and I focus on the images: the light, the shadows, the gestures… and before I know it, hours have flown by. And I’m happy.	De pronto, los problemas pasan a un segundo plano y me enfoco en las imágenes: la luz, las sombras, los gestos… y sin darme cuenta se me van las horas. Y yo, feliz.

EL DESCUBRIMIENTO CONSTANTE / CONSTANT DISCOVERY

I always end up discovering something new. No matter how many times I’ve been through the same neighborhood, there’s always something that surprises me. There’s something magical about it.	Siempre termino descubriendo algo nuevo. No importa cuántas veces haya pasado por el mismo barrio, siempre aparece algo que me sorprende. Tiene algo de mágico.

EL VALOR DE LA COMUNIDAD / THE VALUE OF COMMUNITY

And then there’s the moment of sharing the photos with the community. That really lifts my spirits and makes me eager to keep going.	Y luego está el momento de compartir las fotos con la comunidad. Eso me da mucho ánimo, muchas ganas de seguir.
