Far from the Street Drama / Lejos del drama callejero

T

oday we’re stepping away from the city and its hustle and bustle to immerse ourselves in nature. This time, the star of my story is a little hummingbird that lives in my backyard.

H

Conditioning the Backyard / El acondicionamiento del patio

For years, I’ve been setting up the space to make it as welcoming as possible for the birds that visit, especially by planting flowers that really attract them.

The Territorial Guardian / El guardián territorial

Many species pass through here, but this hummingbird has taken control and rules with an iron beak. He’s extremely territorial and maintains an iron grip on every flower that blooms.

A Matter of Size / Cuestión de tamaños

It cracks me up because he doesn’t care about size: he’ll take on a bee just as easily as a pigeon. The flowers are his… period.

The Photographer's Opportunity / La oportunidad del fotógrafo

Of course, the photographer enjoys every detail. Since he’s so focused on feeding, I can get pretty close and snap “the perfect shot.”

The Technical Challenge (Nikon D200) / El reto técnico (Nikon D200)

It’s also a challenge, because he never stops moving. And my camera, which is getting on in years, sometimes struggles to focus on these little ones in mid-flight. Even so, it ends up being excellent field practice.

Respect and Coexistence / Respeto y convivencia

I’m not always right on top of him with the camera. Most of the time I don’t even go near him, so he can stay calm, though I’d dare say he’s already gotten used to my presence.

Farewell / Despedida

And that’s how I spend my time when I can’t go out to Havana: with my friend the zunzún, enjoying the patio, the flowers, and practicing photography.

I hope you liked the photos. It’s always a pleasure to share them and be part of this great #monomad family. I wish you a lovely day and good health.

Impressive shots you managed to take. You must had spent so much time & efforts taking all these shots.

For humming birds lovers may be these details below can add some more value to the astounding work done by the author @muhammadhalim
I ve got these details by searching:
Hummung birds unique features
On google.com.

There are approximately 360 to 370 known species of hummingbirds in the world, belonging to the family Trochilidae. These birds are exclusively found in the Western Hemisphere, with the highest diversity located in South America.

Humming birds can fly backward and upside down, thanks to a unique shoulder joint that lets their wings move in a figure-eight pattern.

Heart Rate: Their hearts can beat over 1,200 times per minute when they're active. To save energy at night, they go into "torpor," a deep sleep where their heart rate drops to about 50 beats per minute so they don't starve to death while napping.
Src: Google

Weight: Some species weigh less than a penny. They are incredibly tiny but carry enough "brain power" to remember every single flower they’ve visited and how long it takes for that flower to refill with nectar.

The Tongue: It’s not a straw! It’s actually split at the end and fringed with tiny hairs. When it hits nectar, it zips in and out about 20 times per second, trapping the liquid with capillary action.
