Monomad: Edge of Downtown and the Frozen River

This is the west side of downtown on the other side of the river. At least this is what it used to look like before some larger high-rises started to dominate the skyline. These were taken around 2009; condo buildings had just started to become commonplace with their more modern designs. The population was about 1.1 million people and has since ballooned to about 1.7 million. Calgary is generally among the fastest-growing cities in North America, but I will always remember it like these pictures. The river is called the Bow; it freezes over typically in the winter, and it made for a great foreground in these shots. near 10 Street, the Louise Bridge connects downtown to Hillhurst and Sunnyside, some of the oldest neighborhoods in this city.
