A Unique Experience Through The Plaza

When we walk through our city, memories always come to our mind, the days when our parents took us to the Plaza Bolivar, there were the photographers with their old cameras ready to take a souvenir photo, the melcochas vendors, who sweetened our palate and there was no lack of pigeons tucked in their dovecotes, which came out of their hiding place fluttering, every time a child shared his cotufas with them. Another touching attraction were the charming squirrels that very stealthily came down from the trees to eat from the hand of a visitor.

Una Vivencia Única Por La Plaza

Cuando caminamos por nuestra ciudad, siempre los recuerdos afloran a nuestra mente, los días en que nuestros padres nos llevaban a la Plaza Bolívar, ahí se encontraban los fotógrafos con sus cámaras antiguas listas para sacar una foto de recuerdo, los vendedores de melcochas, que endulzaban nuestro paladar y no faltaban las palomas metidas en sus palomares, que salían de su escondite revoloteando, cada vez que un niño compartía sus cotufas con ellas. Otra atracción y conmovedora eran las encantadoras ardillas que muy sigilosas bajaban de los árboles para comer de la mano de algún visitante.

It was beautiful, well! It's still beautiful, although a lot has changed. Children still feed them and run after them. The squirrels are very few, there are no photographers; because innovations have not brought cell phones, there are no pigeon lofts. But the tradition is maintained, parents continue to bring their children to the square for their amusement, and many older adults gather to chat and share brief anecdotes of their experiences throughout history.

Era hermoso, ¡Bueno! Sigue siendo hermoso, aunque han cambiado muchas cosas. Los niños siguen alimentándolas y corriendo detrás de ellas. Las ardillas se ven muy pocas, no hay fotógrafos; porque las innovaciones no han traído ahora los celulares, no existen los palomares. Pero se mantiene la tradición, los padres siguen trayendo a sus niños a la plaza para su distracción, y muchos adultos mayores se reúnen para la tertulia y compartir breves anécdotas de sus vivencias a través de la historia.

While those memories come to my mind, I walk and see the facade of the Casa Amarilla, main headquarters of the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry, a coffee stand. Thus I arrived at the Ayacucho Theater, declared a National Historic Monument on April 15, 1994, built with a colonial style architecture, its symmetrical composition balances its protruding walls, highlighting an arch at the top. By that time, it became an artistic space, where there was a lot of social life, it was a theater and cinema, and great events and shows that served as entertainment for the people of Caracas. Its construction was in charge of the architect Alejandro Chataing, and it was inaugurated in December 1926.

Mientras vienen a mi memoria esos recuerdos, camino y veo la fachada de la Casa Amarilla, sede principal de la Cancillería de Venezuela, un puesto de café. Así llegué al Teatro Ayacucho, declarado Monumento Histórico Nacional el 15 de abril de 1994, construido con una arquitectura estilo colonial, su composición simétrica equilibra sus muros salientes, destacándose un arco en su parte superior. Para esa época, se convirtió en un espacio artístico, donde existió mucha vida social, fue teatro y cine, se realizaban grandes eventos y espectáculos que servían de distracción a la población caraqueña. Su construcción estuvo a cargo del arquitecto Alejandro Chataing, fue inaugurado por el mes de diciembre de 1926.

Both the Casa Amarilla and the Ayacucho Theater are located in the surroundings of the Plaza Bolivar and are part of the historic center of the city of Caracas.

Tanto la Casa Amarilla, como el Teatro Ayacucho, se ubican en los alrededores de la Plaza Bolívar, son infraestructuras que forman parte del casco histórico de la ciudad de Caracas
