Eyes say more than words (ENG-ESP)-Monomad challenge

As a psychologist, I know how important the projection of a gaze is, and I love to detail that of children and animals. Their looks are so authentic, so real—the spark in their eyes when they laugh, which instantly infects us with their energy, free from malice. Then there’s that lost glance into infinity that makes you feel there’s a depth of almost inexhaustible ideas in their minds. When we ask them, “What’s wrong?” it seems almost silly, because we want to believe we are worthy of that imaginative realm that is childhood cognition.

All of this reminds me a bit of the perspective of Saint-Exupéry, the author of The Little Prince, who invites us to try to see through the eyes of our childhood. I've always thought that the hardest jobs belong to veterinarians and pediatricians who work with newborns. In health care, when there’s discomfort or illness, we connect verbally, but an animal, when it feels unwell, doesn’t have that tool to say: “this hurts, I’m dizzy, I’m not hungry,” etc. They simply go off to a corner, and somehow their owners try to understand what’s happening to them.

Como psicólogo se lo importante que es la proyección de una mirada, y me encanta detallar la de los niños y de los animales son tan auténticas, tan reales, ese brillo en los ojos al reír que solo al verlos nos contagia su energía libre de malicia como también ese vistazo perdido en el infinito que te hacen pensar que es su mente hay una profundidad de ideas casi inagotable que al preguntarles ¿Qué les sucede? Nos resulta una tontería, porque pretendemos creer que somos dignos de ese imaginario que es la cognición infantil.

Todo eso me recuerda un poco a la visión de Saint Exupéry el autor de el principito que nos invita en un momento a tratar de ver desde la mirada de nuestra niñes, saben siempre pensé que el trabajo más difícil lo tenían los veterinarios y los pediatras que trabajan con neonatos, en el área de la salud cuando hay un malestar o una dolencia todos nos vinculamos desde el verbal, pero un animal cuando se siente mal no tiene esa herramienta para decir: me duele esto, estoy mareado, no tengo hambre, etc; ellos simplemente se van a un rincón y de alguna sus dueños tratan de entender que les pasa.

In my office, this often happens with the parents of my young patients. It’s incredible how much we have gradually lost the ability to connect with those close to us—ironically, in a time when people praise connection the most. What I see in this universe is equivalent: the more we connect to social networks, the more we disconnect from some realities.

This situation is neither good nor bad, depending on the case. If a mother uses her phone as a means of distraction with her baby, that living being will miss out on the necessary training to socialize in the coming years. In cases I have seen, their language can be affected by the lack of experiences they should have with their mother. But I repeat, this is neither good nor bad. In a world where the economy offers poor prospects, many parents have to work demanding hours, and using electronic means of connection becomes the only viable option to ensure their child isn’t lost.

En mi consultorio muchas veces pasa esto con los padres de mis jóvenes pacientes, es increíble la capacidad que poco a poco hemos perdido de vincularnos con las personas cercanas e irónicamente en la época que más vanaglorian la conexión, pero lo que veo todo en este universo es equivalente mientras más nos conectamos a redes sociales más nos desconectamos de alguna realidad.

Situación que no es mala ni buena dependiendo del caso, si una madre utiliza el teléfono como medio de distracción con su bebe ese ser vivo se perderá del entrenamiento necesario para sociabilizar en años próximos o en casos que he visto su lenguaje será afectado por la carencia de ejercicios que empíricamente obtiene con la madre, pero repito esto no es ni malo ni bueno, en un mundo donde la economía no da buen pronostico muchos padres tienen que trabajar en jornadas muy escabrosas y utilizar medios vinculativos electrónicos terminan siendo el único medio posible para que no se pierda.

Duty is very similar to happiness, said Victor Hugo. Connecting through a glance is a matter of sensitivity. At the beginning of our history as a species, connecting and being social, even with another species like dogs, is what made us human when we were still in caves.

If we lose that essence, what will we become?

El deber tiene gran similitud con la felicidad decía Victor Hugo, el conectar con una mirada es cuestión de sensibilidad, a comienzo de nuestra historia como especie el conectar, el ser sociables hasta con otra especie como el perro fue lo que nos hizo humanos cuando todavía estábamos en las cavernas.

Si perdemos esa esencia ¿en que nos convertiremos?
