Hello dear #Hive friends!.... Welcome to another edition of my street and black and white photography series "Stolen Stories" which, as always, is my entry to today's #monomad challenge.... By the way, I take this opportunity to invite all photography lovers and most especially those who like black and white photos, to participate and enjoy this lovely daily challenge, which is always full of excellent visual works.

¡Hola queridos amigos de #Hive!... Bienvenidos a otra edición de mi serie de fotografía callejera y en blanco y negro "Historias Robadas" la cual, como siempre, es mi entrada al reto #monomad de hoy... Por cierto, aprovecho para invitar a todos los amantes de la fotografía y muy especialmente a aquellos que gustan de las fotos en blanco y negro, a participar y disfrutar de este encantador reto diario, el cual siempre está repleto de excelentes trabajos visuales.

"Conchero"... Three streets away from my house, Conchero appears walking with his head down while smoking his ever-present cigarette. I have known him since I was a child and he used to work in my grandfather's and my uncle's abastos unloading the sacks from the trucks... I've always called him "Conchero", that's the way everyone calls him here and I've never really asked for his real name.

"Conchero"... A tres calles de mi casa, aparece conchero caminando con la cabeza gacha mientras fuma su infaltable cigarrillo. Le conozco desde que yo era un niño y él solía trabajar en los abastos de mi abuelo y de mi tío descargando los sacos de los camiones... Siempre le he llamado "Conchero", así es la manera como todos le llaman aquí y en realidad nunca he preguntado por su nombre real.

When he notices me Conchero he looks up and greets me with his big, pleasant smile. Despite having led a hard life he maintains his good nature. And when I say "a hard life" I mean it, because Conchero's parents died when he was very young and from then on he had to work to eat, he never had a formal education and finally, when he was able to have his own business breeding pigs and selling their by-products, a flood of the river destroyed his small house and killed his animals. As if all this were not enough, his wife died in 2021 due to the pandemic which hit everyone hard.

Cuando advierte mi presencia Conchero alza el rostro y me saluda con su enorme y agradable sonrisa. A pesar de haber llevado una vida dura él mantiene su buen talante. Y cuando digo "una vida dura" estoy hablando en serio, pues los padres de conchero murieron siendo él muy joven y de ahí en adelante tuvo que trabajar para comer, nunca tuvo estudios formales y finalmente, cuando pudo tener su propio negocio de cría de cerdos y venta de sus derivados, una crecida del río destruyó su pequeña casa y mató sus animales. Como si todo esto fuera poco, su esposa murió en 2021 debido a la pandemia la cual azotó duramente a todos.

After greeting me and taking a sip of his cigarette, Conchero continues down the street with his sack laden with broken dreams but also with an unbreakable will that makes him get up every morning to earn his living the best way he can. Such are some lives in this and other small forgotten corners of the world.

Después de saludarme y dar un sorbo a su cigarrillo, Conchero sigue calle abajo con su saco cargado de sueños rotos pero también de una voluntad inquebrantable la cual le hace levantarse cada mañana para ganarse el sustento de la manera en la que mejor pueda. Así son algunas vidas en este y otros pequeños rincones olvidados del mundo.

"Silvestre"... Just a few steps after leaving Conchero behind, I find my neighbour and friend "Silvestre Barreto" petting stray dogs and feeding them. People say around here that Silvestre "is as old as the wind" 😂 but he still has a lot of energy and a huge and good heart to help everyone.

"Silvestre"... Apenas unos pasos después de dejar atrás a Conchero, encuentro a mi vecino y amigo "Silvestre Barreto" acariciando perros callejeros y dándoles de comer. La gente dice por aquí que Silvestre "es tan viejo como el viento" 😂 pero él conserva mucha energía y un corazón enorme y bueno para ayudar a todos.

By the way, that dog that Silvestre is petting, is "Chicho" (the stray dog that sometimes chases me through the streets and paths while I'm taking pictures).... So there he was, eh! 😂 I was already surprised I hadn't seen him lately!

Por cierto, ese perro al cual Silvestre está acariciando, es "Chicho" (el perro callejero que suele perseguirme a veces por las calles y caminos mientras hago fotos)... ¡Así que allí estaba, eh! 😂 ¡Ya me había extrañado el no haberlo visto últimamente!.

After Silvestre leaves, Chicho very stealthily and cautiously chases me... He seems to assume that I'm angry after I found him playing with Silvestre!... 😂😂😂... I love that little dog, sometimes it seems almost human!.

Después de que Silvestre se marcha, Chicho me persigue con mucho disimulo y cautela... ¡Parece suponer que yo estoy enojado por haberlo hallado jugueteando con Silvestre!... 😂😂😂... ¡Me encanta ese perrito, a veces parece casi humano!.

"Arriving from school"... The situation is complicated here as far as schools are concerned, as the constant power failures and/or the lack of drinking water in the institutions result in limitations and impediments for the teaching hours to be taught correctly. So, as in the case of this child who returns home barely an hour after going to school, it is something that is repeated all too often.

"Llegando del colegio"... La situación es complicada aquí en lo que respecta a las escuelas, pues las constantes fallas del servicio eléctrico y/o la carencia de agua potable en las instituciones, derivan en limitaciones e impedimentos para que sean impartidas las horas de enseñanza de forma correcta. Entonces, como el caso de este niño quien retorna a su casa apenas una hora después de ir a la escuela, es algo que se repite con demasiada frecuencia.

"The last chicken in the yard"... Boy, it looks like things are not going well in Mrs Crucita's yard. Before, maybe a couple of years ago, it used to be a place where at least a couple of dozen chickens were always fussing and eating some of the fruit that fell to the ground from the trees. But, week by week, I have noted with concern the noticeable reduction of chickens in the yard.... To the point where this week there was only one chicken there eating fruit!... Well, it seems that these chickens have been unlucky and have gradually ended up in the pots in Mrs Crucita's kitchen" :(

"El último pollo en el patio"... Caray, tal parece que las cosas no andan bien el patio de la Señora Crucita. Antes, hace un par de años quizás, era un lugar en donde al menos un par de docenas de pollos estaban siempre haciendo bullicio y comiendo de algunas frutas las cuales caían al suelo desde los árboles. Pero, semana a semana, he observado con preocupación la notable reducción de pollos en el patio... ¡Hasta el punto en el que esta semana solo había un pollo allí comiendo fruta!... ¡Bien, parece que estos pollos no han tenido suerte y poco a poco han terminado en las ollas de la cocina de la Señora Crucita" :(

"Mia's bonus shot 😻"

And this is an additional photo as a gift for all of you!.... It's "Mia" my pampered cat and a real "top model" in my old kitchen window, which is one of her favourite places to spend the day "doing absolutely nothing" (which is what she does best) 😂

¡Y esta es una foto adicional como regalo para todos ustedes!... Es "Mia" mi gata consentida y toda una "top model" en la vieja ventana de mi cocina, la cual es una de sus lugares favoritos para pasar el día "haciendo absolutamente nada" (lo cual es lo que mejor ella sabe hacer) 😂
