"A child on the doorstep" / _{"Un niño en el umbral"}

I use to take street photos for many reasons, but the most special one is the degree of pleasure I get from wandering around the street thinking, self-analysing, trying to find answers to some deep questions that I usually ask myself... And then, without warning and in a practically magical way, I come across an image that enchants me and suddenly takes me out of my introspection... This photo struck me, there really is something eloquent and narrative about that child sitting on his doorstep and the figure of the feet and hands of another child in the arms of his mother in the background... Sometimes I have the feeling that I am in the precise place where I should be.

Yo acostumbro hacer fotos de calle por muchas razones, pero la más especial es el grado de placer que siento al ir deambulando por la calle pensando, auto-analizándome, procurando encontrar respuestas a algunas interrogantes profundas que suelo plantearme... Y entonces, sin previo aviso y de una manera prácticamente mágica, toparme con una imagen que me encante y me saque de mi introspección repentinamente... Esta foto me impactó, realmente hay algo elocuente y narrativo en ese niño sentado en el umbral de su puerta y además la figura de los pies y las manos de otro niño en brazos de su madre al fondo... A veces tengo la sensación de que estoy en el lugar preciso en donde debo estar.

"José, the friend..." / _{"José, el amigo..."}

Three and a half decades ago, when I was a young systems engineering trainee at a nearby company; my friend José Parra was the ambulance driver and office-boy for that company... So, I remember, always waiting for José and asking him to give me a lift to the nearest town (the company was located in a rural area and there there was very little public transport)... Sometimes José used the old ambulance to go to fulfill the errands that were assigned to him, then he allowed me to activate the siren while we were going down the road (take into account that I was a beardless 18 years old)... Now, every time I meet José on the street, we remember those times with laughter and jokes. 😂🚨🚑

Tres y media décadas atrás, cuando yo era un joven pasante de ingeniería de sistemas en una empresa cercana; mi amigo José Parra fungía como conductor de la ambulancia y office-boy de esa empresa... Entonces, recuerdo, siempre esperar a José y pedirle que me diese un empujón hasta el pueblo más cercano (la empresa estaba ubicada en una zona rural y allí había muy poco transporte público)... A veces José usaba la vieja ambulancia para ir a cumplir las encomiendas que le fueran asignadas, entonces él me permitía accionar la sirena mientras íbamos por la carretera (tomen en cuenta que yo entonces era un imberbe de 18 años)... Ahora, cada vez que encuentro a José en la calle, recordamos aquellos tiempos entre risas y chanzas. 😂🚨🚑

"Cat on the door" / _{"Gato en la puerta"}

Animals, at least here in my village, are an integral part of street photography. Cats (like this one in the photo above for example) are rather "overbearing". You could say that they look at me with a certain disdain even while I'm taking a picture of them... But I find them charming! 😻... But, of course, dogs are something else... Let's look at the following pictures and you'll see what I mean...

Los animales, cuando menos aquí en mi pueblo, son parte integral de la fotografía callejera. Los gatos (como este en la foto de arriba por ejemplo) son bastante digamos "prepotentes". Podría decirse que me miran con cierto desdén inclusive mientras les hago una fotos... ¡Pero me parecen encantadores! 😻... Pero, ciertamente, los perros son cosa distinta... Veamos la fotos siguiente y verán a que me refiero...

"Photographer's best friend" / _{"El mejor amigo del fotógrafo"}

Don't you think it's a lovely image...? Some of you may already know "Chico" (my particular stray dog, as I call him)... Chicho appears at any time and in any street, actually sometimes I think he is a little guardian angel or something like that. But the most charming thing about Chicho is his effusiveness and friendliness. In this photo (a bit out of focus, as his running towards me took me by surprise) Chico is about to come running up to me and give me a few licks, when I see him do this I usually sit on the pavement to wait for him.... Yes, I know he's a stray dog and he might be carrying a legion of bacteria and dust, I have been warned about it by my mother, my wife and even my dogs vet.... But who cares about that?... Affection is a wonderful antiseptic and antibiotic! 🐶❤️

¿No les parece una imagen encantadora?... Algunos de ustedes quizás ya conocen a "Chico" (Mi perro callejero particular, como yo le llamo)... Chicho suele aparecer en cualquier momento y en cualquier calle, en realidad a veces creo que es un pequeño ángel guardián o algo por el estilo. Pero lo más encantador de Chicho es su efusividad y su simpatía. En esta foto (un poco desenfocada, pues su carrera hacia mi me tomó por sorpresa) Chico está a punto de llegar mi corriendo y darme unas cuantas lambetadas, cuando lo veo hacer esto suelo sentarme en en pavimento para esperarlo... ¡Sí, ya sé que es un perro callejero y que quizás pueda portar una legión de bacterias y polvo!, me lo han dicho mi madre, mi esposa e incluso la veterinaria de mis perros... ¿Pero, a quien le importa eso?... ¡El afecto es un antiséptico y antibiótico maravilloso! 🐶❤️

"Eternal search" / _{"La eterna búsqueda"}

It is simply breathtaking, the years go by and in our village less and less drinking water is coming through the pipes... So, it is easy to observe a veritable parade of containers, wheelbarrows and other inventions that people make to get the vital liquid from the public fountains (which are nothing more than a broken water main or a vandalised pumping station) to their homes... It's a never-ending evil!

Simplemente es impresionante, los años pasan si cesar y en nuestro pueblo cada vez llega menos agua potable a través de las tuberías... Entonces, es fácil observar un verdadero desfile de recipientes, carretillas y otros inventos que la gente hace para lograr llegar el vital liquido desde las fuentes publicas (las cuales no son más que alguna tubería matriz rota o una estación de bombeo vandalizada) hasta sus casas... ¡Es un mal de nunca acabar!.

"Mrs. Crucita" / _{"Doña Crusita"}

This is a simple photo... I took it because I found it interesting to see "Doña Crucita" there talking with someone next to that fence of wires and bushes with clothes hanging to dry in the sun... This photo seemed to me something like: "A typical image of a neighborhood on the western margins of town"... In that area everything is still closer to the rural environment if compared to the streets in the center of town. Maybe that's why I took this photo, now that I think about it.

Esta es una foto simple... La hice porque me pareció interesante ver allí a "Doña Crucita" conversando con alguien al lado de esa empalizada de arbustos con prendas de vestir colgadas para secarse al sol... Esta foto se me antojó algo así como "Una imagen típica de un vecindario en las margenes al oeste del pueblo"... En esa área todo sigue siendo más cercano al ambiente rural si se le compara con las calles al centro del pueblo. Quizás por eso hice esta foto, ah ira que lo pienso bien.

"Fluff" / _"Pelusa"

Everyone calls my neighbor Gabriel "Pelusa" since he was a child. This happens due to his thin build. However, don't be fooled, because "Pelusa" is an excellent cyclist and even won some state and national races during his younger years... Today Gagriel "Pelusa" is a typical character of the town.

A mi vecino Gabriel, todos le llaman "Pelusa" (Fluff) desde que era un niño. Esto sucede debido a su complexión delgada. Sin embargo, no hay que dejarse engañar, pues "Pelusa" es un excelente ciclista e incluso llegó a ganar algunas carreras estatales y nacionales durante sus años de juventud... Hoy en día Gagriel "Pelusa" es un personaje típico del pueblo.
