MORE STREET TALES - MONOMAD - Street photography from Montalbán, Carabobo St., Venezuela (10 pics)
Hello #Hive friends... Today I brought to share with you some more of my black and white street photography. These are recent photos and I'm going to accompany them with comments and tale-like thoughts I think. Today, as almost always, I feel like writing a lot after having processed and edited my photos...
Socrates is obviously a puppy, you can check it by the photo. But Socrates is not his name, because I have given him that name in my head. For me “Socrates” looks as if he is watching me (and judging me, surely) every time he passes by... Socrates is not a stray, I have seen him going in and out of a small house where there are children who take care of him, feed him and caress him... But when he is in his street, he always seems to have that gaze which worries me a little bit...
Martin is surely a good person. He is an unquestionable defender of a huge universe of causes that many people consider lost. He likes to defend trees, he likes to defend the left as a way of life, he still likes to defend Marx and can often be seen flying flags of faraway countries quite unknown, by the way, in the streets of this town... But Martin also defends the birds, the stray dogs, the humble people and the underprivileged. Martin speaks with courtesy, greets and looks gentle... He is a good man then. At least he has enough will to defend some causes. Something that I perhaps lost at the university...
📷 03- The corner of Miguél's house... / La esquina de la casa de Miguél..
Miguel's house is right where the town ends and a forest begins. When I was a young boy of about 12 years old and Miguel was just a kid of about 5 or 6, the fences of his house did not exist yet. And then I would go straight to the yard, without asking permission from his parents or anyone else, cross part of the forest and reach the small riverbed to catch small fish and take them to my fishing boat... Now there are fences, there are limits, the town changes little but it changes. And from time to time the small river dries up and has no fish...
📷 04- A man in the corner of the hospital... / Un hombre en la esquina del hospital...
In the old village hospital there is no more alcohol, no more sutures, no more gauze, no more painkillers, much less oxygen or a blood pressure monitor... In fact, sometimes in the old village hospital there is not even electricity... So, seeing a man stopped there seems a bit strange... What can you find in a hospital with no supplies?... Perhaps he will only find there the compassion of a doctor or a nurse, or even of the lady who cleans the floors. All of them are still like “saints” pretending to make miracles in the cold corridors of the hospital with nothing...
📷 05- Mr. Eduardo... / El Señor Eduardo...
I took this portrait of Mr. Eduardo because he asked me for it. He came out one morning from the door of his house and told me: I saw you coming taking pictures from my window and I remembered your father, he was my friend and we used to talk in the afternoons when we met in the “Café de Melillo”... I know that now neither your father nor that Café are there, so take a picture of me while I am still here....
📷 06- A street between two poles... / Una calle entre dos postes...
Sometimes I do strange things like this: I place myself between two lighting poles (I have no idea why some of them are so close together, here the wires go in an anarchic way and the poles are placed the same way) and then I use them as a frame to take pictures of my sad streets... And they look like this here, as if I am looking at all this through a window that takes me away and protects me from all this...
📷 07- A lapwing flies by, squawking... / Un avefría pasa volando y graznando...
My grandmother Olimpia used to tell me that: When a lapwing squawked over the roof of a house, in that house (or in a nearby one) there was surely “a pregnant single woman”... And then a lot of trouble was caused in the house where there was a young woman suspected of having hidden or forbidden love affairs... My grandmother used to say: "Inventions of the people of the village!" But it was not strange to see the girls throwing stones at the lapwings so that they would not fly near the houses (and believe it or not, even today they still throw stones at them to scare them away)...
📷 08- "Ator"... / "Ator"...
I didn't know the name of “Ator”, but once I took a picture of him and published it, and then his owner wrote me saying: “That's my beloved ‘Ator’, thank you for taking that picture”... And since then every time I see Ator in the street (because he just wanders in the street in front of his house) I take a picture of him and he just looks at me with a face of a good guy...
📷 09- That rooster that looks again... / Ese gallo que mira otra vez...
That rooster is strange, I think he's new in that yard, whenever I pass by in the mornings lately, he's just standing there on that mound of sand. Sometimes he looks at the wall, but this time he's been looking right at me. I need to talk to that rooster, I think I will soon, I will tell him that I have been a vegetarian for many years. Then, like all the roosters in town, he'll be talking to me and I'm sure he'll tell me why he almost always looks at the wall.
📷 10- A corner on Perez Carreño Avenue... / Una esquina en la Avenida Pérez Carreño...
That corner, that one on Perez Carreño Avenue, I remember that there was Ricardo's barbershop, a cousin of my grandmother Olimpia who many nicknamed “Jiqui-Jiqui” emulating the sound of those strange hand razors that he used in his profession... I was taken as a child and “Jiqui-Jiqui” by my grandmother's orders gave me a haircut called “the haircut of a fighting boy” which consisted of leaving the whole skull shaved with a long lock of hair on the forehead, which served for my grandmother, my mother, my teacher and even the catechist, to pull it strongly by way of reprimand for bad behavior... The things that used to happen in the old days!...

As usual. black and white photography street Montalbán's is full of emotion.
Greetings my brother @jlinaresp :)
Yes my friend, my town's streets alway have somte to say to the camera lens!... 😀👍... Thanks for appreciating and comment!
A lapwing flies photo is very nice Sir @jlinaresp , you did it very well taking this photo. It looks like the place is very peaceful and perfect to lived, I only seen few vehicles. ☺
These lapwing fly over the town and some live on the roofs where they raise their chicks until they fly! 😀... It's always nice to see one and take a picture!... There are few vehicles, my dear friend, because we suffer from fuel shortages (believe it or not, it happens frequently in Venezuela) 😒... Thank you very much for stopping by and appreciating my work! 🙏
For me Sir, it is really difficult to take picture specially when it moves. 😁But you did it very perfectly.
Hey there!
These scenes brought light to my day.
I love them all, and I'm trying to figure out if that's the dog's curious face, or what :)
Have a lovely day!
Hello @millycf1976 friend!!!... How nice to see you here! 🙏... Thank you so much for appreciating and supporting my photography work 🙏... I think that dog ("Ator" in photo 08) is thinking: That guy isn't carrying any dog food today! 😂... because I usually carry some dog food with me and feed them, but that day I didn't do it like that, I just passed by, said hi to "Aitor" and took that photo 😂... But "Socrates" (the one in photo 01) always has that face of "analyzing and judging everyone" 😂 and he doesn't accept dog food when it's offered to him! 🤷♂... Sending my best wishes to you and have a great day!
