Sometimes I find the streets of the town so empty that even a human figure in the distance becomes an interesting discovery; sometimes these streets are filled only with the voices of people inside their homes or the sound of a radio breaking the silence of the early morning; sometimes a vehicle on a street seems to be the only thing watching me, or a dog passing by, the only possible companion for just a few brief seconds. Yes, sometimes emptiness reigns on every block like an uncompromising pattern that covers the blocks one by one and stops at the corners to make sure it is everywhere...

Algunas veces me encuentro con las calles del pueblo tan vacías, que incluso una figura humana en la lejanía se transforma en un hallazgo interesante; algunas veces estas calles tienen apenas las voces de las personas dentro de sus casas o el sonido de alguna radio rompiendo el silencio de las mañanas al amanecer; algunas veces un vehículo en una calle parece ser la única cosa que me observa, o un perro que pasa de largo, el único compañero posible durante apenas unos breves segundos. Sí, algunas veces la vaciedad impera en cada cuadra como un patrón intransigente que abarca las cuadras una a una y se detiene en las esquina para asegurarse que él está en todas partes...

Of course, this only happens occasionally, and it almost always happens on Sunday mornings, or sometimes on Mondays, but it can also happen at midday, when the soul of some of the town's streets seems to succumb to the suffocating heat... That's when I tend to be there, like a strange penitent, obsessed with recording the curious silences that seem normal to others. Yes, certainly, sometimes I am there and I take these photos that are more or less “photographing absences,” and then I come and look at them as if wanting them to tell me something they cannot say... Emptiness, certainly sometimes there is emptiness...

Claro que esto sucede solo algunas veces, y sucede casi siempre en las mañanas de los Domingo, o algunas veces delos Lunes, pero también puede suceder al mediodía, cuando el animo de algunas calles del pueblo pareciera sucumbir al calor sofocante... Entonces yo suelo estar por allí, como un penitente extraño, como obseso de registrar los silencios curiosos que a otros parecen normales. Sí, ciertamente, algunas veces yo estoy allí y disparo estas fotos que son poco más o menos "fotografiar ausencias", y luego vengo y las miro como queriendo que ellas me digan algo que no pueden decir... Vaciedad, ciertamente algunas veces hay vaciedad...

And I find it difficult to talk in prose about emptiness, which is why I talk about absences accompanying me through the streets, about thoughts filling spaces that have nothing, about photographing what I cannot see and the miracle of it appearing there in the frame when I look at it... And of course, I like to sprinkle improvised poetry between these things, as if to bring them together in unison, something that together explains at least a little of the emptiness of the streets, sometimes...

Y a mi se me hace cuesta arriba hablar en prosa acerca de vaciedades, y es por esto que entonces hablo de ausencias acompañándome por las calles, de pensamientos llenando espacios que no tienen nada, de esto de fotografiar lo que no puedo ver y del milagro de que aparezca allí en el fotograma cuando lo observo... Y por supuesto, me gusta poner gajos de poesía improvisados entre estas cosas, como para juntarlas en algo unísono, algo que en conjunto esplique siquiera un poco de la vaciedad de las calles, algunas veces...

They were then exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape v3.7}
