Well, I have to confess that today I sat in front of my PC in my small office with the intention of finding some photos to create a post related to Christmas. But I'm not really much of a photographer of that kind of motifs and besides, in the streets of my town there are relatively few scenes allegorical to these festivities. So, going through my RAW files of the last month, I found myself face to face with a lot of street photos where dogs appear... So, all my creative intention today ended up going behind these photos and becoming material for this post which, by the way, is my entry to today's #monomad challenge.

Bien, he de confesar que hoy me senté en frente de mi PC en mi pequeña oficina con la intención de encontrar algunas fotos para crear un post relacionado con las fechas navideñas. Pero en realidad no soy de mucho fotografiar ese tipo de cosas y además en las calles de mi pueblo son relativamente pocos los motivos alegóricos a estas festividades. Así fue como, revisando mis archivos RAW de este ultimo mes, me encontré cara a cara con un montón de fotos callejeras en donde aparecen perros... Entonces, toda mi intención creativa de hoy terminó yéndose detrás de estas fotos y convirtiéndose en material para esta publicación la cual, dicho sea de paso, es mi entrada al reto #monomad de hoy.

Wow, I was surprised when I realised how emotionally charged some of these photos are. I actually take these photos because we have a lot of dogs on the streets here and I grew up loving these animals and seeing them as a necessary and valuable part of my environment. I could not understand the streets of my town without its dogs. It is perhaps because of that that in these photos there is a lot of drama and even some perceptible psychological anarchy.

Caray, me sorprendí cuando constaté la carga emotiva que algunas de estas fotos tienen. En realidad hago estas fotos porque aquí tenemos muchos perros en las calles y yo crecí amando a estos animales y mirándolos como parte necesaria y valiosa de mi entorno. Yo no podría entender las calles de mi pueblo sin sus perros. Es quizás debido a eso que en estas fotos hay mucho drama e incluso algo de anarquía psicologica perceptible.

I did an impetuous editing job, with strong contrasts, sharpening and lightening almost instinctive and very much in line with the need I felt to give an especially eloquent and expressive character to these photos. Also the cropping and framing were done by breaking the standards I usually respect when composing. Yes, the result is far from being technically perfect, but I think that the meaning and the message in each photo makes them valuable pieces that tell the story of the streets of Montalbán and its inevitable "communal dogs" (as I like to call them).

Hice un trabajo de edición impetuoso, con contrastes fuertes, afilados y aclarados casi instintivos y muy acordes con la necesidad que sentí de dar un carácter especialmente elocuente y expresivo a estas fotos. También los recortes y encuadres fueron realizados rompiendo estándares que usualmente suelo respetara la hora de componer. sí que el resultado dista de ser técnicamente perfecto, pero pienso que el significado y el mensaje en cada foto las convierte en piezas valiosas que relatan el acontecer de las calles de Montalbán y sus infaltables "perros comunales" (como me gusta llamarlos).

I love doing this kind of thematic compilations for #monomad. I especially love it when it's about dogs or cats. This is a strange town (or at least I perceive it that way) because its streets contain a "parallel space" where those who are more sensitive coexist with these animals and feel them as "non-human persons"... Wonderful things happen, there are sad memories but also happy memories. I have some friends with whom I can sit in the street and remember together the experiences we had with some of the dogs in our streets that are no longer with us. That is how deep the relationship between humans and animals can be when they live together in such complex and diverse spaces as the streets of a small and forgotten town like this one. In my very particular opinion, that is something valuable and worth living.

Amo hacer este tipo de recopilaciones temáticas para #monomad. Lo amo especialmente cuando se trata de perros o de gatos. Este es un pueblo extraño (o cuando menos yo lo percibo así) pues sus calles contienen un "espacio paralelo" en donde aquellos que son más sensibles conviven con estos animales y los sienten como "personas no humanas"... Pasan cosas maravillosas, hay recuerdos tristes pero también memorias alegres. Tengo algunos amigos con los cuales puedo sentarme en la calle y recordar juntos las vivencias que tuvimos con algunos perros de nuestras calles que ya no están con nosotros. Así de profunda puede ser la relación que se establece entre humanos y animales cuando conviven en espacios tan complejos y diversos como las calles de un pueblo pequeño y olvidado como este. En mi opinión muy particular, eso es algo valioso y digno de vivirse.

_{ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL NOTE: Photographs captured with my Nikon D7000 DSLR camera in RAW format, then processed in Adobe Camera RAW for adjustments regarding light, sharpening, contrast and depth... They were then exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape 3.6.3.}
