Sitting Downtown At A Metro Station

For some reason, Washington DC's Metro stations makes me think of Dr. Strangelove. Not sure why, there's nothing like it in the movie that I recall. It does have a nice fallout shelter feel to it though, or perhaps a horizontal missile silo.

It was built in the middle of the Cold War so that could explain things. I can think of worse places to be stuck ridin' the storm out.

Between the abundance of people and the brutalist architecture it's a fun place to shoot. Plus it's nice to revisit (previsit?) the scenes of Fallout 3.

Since we don't seem to have reached the post stage of the apocalypse I was just shooting with a wide angle on my Nikon. Much of the light came from that center strip between the trains, when two were in the station at the same time it could get a bit interesting.

Sooner or later though you have to ride that great big elevator up to the sky.

Light? Jethro don't need no stinking light.

The lid is strikingly similar to Pantheon in Rome. Only a couple thousand years between construction phases.

Ha, it helps when I'm not humping around a tripod.

Interesting, did not realize that. A couple thousand years and we still can't make concrete as well as they could. I was reading a while back about how there was something in the volcanic ash that the Romans used that made it get even stronger when exposed to seawater.

Tracked it down.

The Metro (subway) stations in DC have so much of that, I could spend hours just looking up. Are there subways in Tel Aviv?

Hope you are well my friend.

there is no subway in T-A.
more exactly - there is the first that is still under construction and it will take a few more years until we will see it :-) is too long a project to add a subway to the not planned for this city
yes I'm doing well bro, hope the same at your side :-)

Ah! Cincinnati (a city about an hour's drive from here) started to build a subway back in the early 1900s but then gave up on the project and cancelled it after a couple miles of tunnels were built. I want to go do a little urban exploration in them rather badly but I've read that they're pretty well sealed up now.

Yeah, keeping my head down and camera ready!

Ha, nice! We caught the metro there after wandering ctown and the portrait gallery. How long did you live (work?) in DC? Fun place to play around with a camera for sure :)
