During my days in Cusco, one of the things I enjoyed the most was taking portraits. I think I've mentioned before how overwhelming the sun is there; it practically destroys your face. In ancient times, people didn't know much about skincare or sunscreen like we do now. Because of that, you often find burned skin, red cheeks, or deep marks on people's faces. I like adding these historical details to my narrative to explain the "why" behind the textures I capture.

This trip also made me realize the way I look at things. I try to capture the differences, the injustices, and the social gaps. That's why documentary photography called to me so much in the end: it fulfills many purposes and fits with the principles and values I've had since I was a kid. It excites me to realize that I can express all of that in a simple photograph.

Before, I would go out, shoot, and not observe much out of fear or embarrassment. I was afraid of drawing attention or facing rejection. But this community has motivated me a lot. I've received great comments, connected with other photographers, and even been mentioned and won in #MonoMad. All of this helped me come out of my shell and start competing with myself, trying to truly find my vision.

I feel like I'm finally finding my path. Walking the streets of Cusco, I now start to notice those small, beautiful compositions. This is my philosophy nowadays: I walk, record an audio note with my thoughts on my phone, transcribe it, format my code, and schedule my post for the next day. It has become a daily, pleasant task.

En los días que estuve en Cusco, una de las cosas que más me gustaron fue poder hacer retratos. Creo que ya les he hablado sobre el sol de la sierra: es abrumador, prácticamente te destruye el rostro. Antiguamente no se conocían los cuidados de la piel ni el protector solar como ahora. Por eso es que muchas veces encontramos la piel quemada, con "chapas" o marcas profundas en los rostros de las personas. Me gusta añadir estas historias a mi narrativa para explicar un poco el "por qué" de las texturas que capturo.

Este viaje también me hizo darme cuenta de la manera que tengo de mirar las cosas. A veces trato de plasmar las diferencias, las injusticias y los rangos sociales. Por eso la fotografía documental fue algo que al final me llamó muchísimo la atención: cumple muchas labores y encaja con principios y valores que siempre he tenido desde pequeño. Me emociona darme cuenta de que todo eso lo puedo plasmar en una simple fotografía.

Antes, salía, disparaba y no observaba mucho por miedo o vergüenza. Tenía miedo de llamar la atención por tomar una foto o miedo al rechazo. Pero esta comunidad me ha servido de muestra y motivación. He recibido muy buenos comentarios, he aprendido de otros fotógrafos y he sido mencionado muchas veces en #MonoMad. Todo esto hizo que pudiera salir un poco del cascarón, ponerme a querer mejorar y a competir conmigo mismo para encontrar mi visión.

Siento que estoy encontrando el camino. Al caminar por las calles, empiezo a notar esas pequeñas composiciones. Creo que esta es mi filosofía hoy en día: camino, voy grabando una nota de audio en mi celular con todo lo que siento, luego transcribo, armo mi código y subo mi publicación para el día siguiente. Es una tarea diaria y muy placentera.
