Canary Wharf | I expected change, but wow

Greetings,
We recently met up, myself and @molometer, in London for a chilled day of coffee and chat. I guess you could call it a Hive meet-up, since we’re both old school Hivers from back in the Steem days. Funny enough, it was the third time we’d ever seen each other in person, but we both felt like we’ve known each other for much longer. I guess that’s testament to the community that forms on such platforms as this. We also share a lot of common interests, which made for a lively and varied conversation. We thought we should have just recorded our convos and published them as a podcast. I certainly learned a lot from some of the brainstorming for sure.
Aaaaanyway, you came here to look at photos, so photos you shall have. Well, you’ve already seen the photos since I’m publishing via Liketu.com which displays the photos first, as that’s the priority.
It had been ages since I’d been to Canary Wharf. Like most parts of London these days, a lot has changed since I was last there. I expected the change, but even then, I was still blown away by how much has changed. There are brand new towers of metal and glass all over the place. There used to be some open clear space back in those days that are now obstructed by sky scrapers. To be fair, back in those days, there were cranes and construction foundations being laid. It was just amazing to actually see them there.
It was a lovely day with a lot of sunshine, even if a bit windy and slightly cold as a result.
Peace & Love,
Adé

I love that city I hope someday to be able to go there.
It's pretty cool. I hope so too.
Good to see you guys meeting up again. We need a bigger London meetup some time. I know a few people are up for that. I've not been around that area lately, but I know it's changed. Seems some companies still have plenty of money to throw into building projects. The London skyline is very different compared with a couple of decades ago.

It was nice to be in that area with someone that grew up there. I used to work around there 15 years ago, so a lot has changed since then, but I was able to learn how it was there when @molometer was a kid.
I should probably be more active in organising a London meetup since I live here. I'm going away in a couple of days. When I get back perhaps we can look at something in November or December.
It would be cool to get some old photos of such places and show how they look now. Some people do the cool thing of holding up the old one to line up with what is there. I do have some old pictures of our village, so I could do a bit of that.
Enjoy your trip.

Hi Ade, it was a great day and good to see you. The hours flew by in what seemed like minutes.
I've got a little theory about why people like us feel so closely connected when we meet in person.
You may be too young to have experienced 'pen pals'?
People have always communicated long distance via letters prior to the internet.
It was quite common when I was a child to have a pen pal or many pen pals around the world.
Using this method we get to know people in quite a different and unique way.
I've always held the belief that most 'social media' is in fact. Pen pals in its latest iteration.
With hive we have so much in common as a starting point that conversations flow thick and fast when we meet in real life.
Whatever the reason. It was great to see you and I'm up for doing some podcasts.😎👍🏼
That was a great shot of the aeroplane linking the old and new of docklands.
Haha. Yes. I had one pen pal that I ironically met in the very early days of the Internet. I had a blog on Geocities and she commented on a post I made. She also had a blog so we started writing each other letters (through the post). I never met her and we stopped after a couple of years. I recently discovered one of the letters in a clear out and it made me want to try to find her online. Email was a thing then, but only university students, or rich nerds, had them, and we couldn't email across the different networks yet. Imagine that. How things have changed.
Wow that would be brilliant to track her down and say hello again. I bet she'd be thrilled. (Not in a stalkerish way😂)
There has been an idea that social media started mass communication but as we both can attest. Friends can be made purely via letters.
Come to think of it. One of the first novels ever written was basically a series of letters exchanged between three people.
The first half of the book is just these letters.
It was titled 'Pamela' by a guy called Samuel Richardson?
Epistolary novel
If there's an audiobook version, I'd probably be interested in that. I'm not the best visual reader, so I seldom read novels.
I read it years ago in college. I'm pretty sure it's in audiobook form. I think there's a movie version as well.
It's a weird and fascinating read.
