Sto Nino Church | My Safe Haven

I have always been a devotee of the Black Nazarene in Cebu, Senior Sto Nino de Cebu.



During Sinulog Festival, my family and I always make sure that we complete the 9 day novena. But in actual, sometimes one of us inevitably skip a day or two due to school or work. Nevertheless, at least we have the intention to complete the 9 day novena.

On a normal day, this is where i go whenever i need some breather or break from work and life in general. There is something about the place that makes everything okay. Its like it has all the answers and all we have to do is ask the question. A lot of tourists and families bond here too.



The old aged interior made of stone walls, and a combination of brick and asphalt tile floors is what makes this place a tourist spot in Cebu. This ancient church is a Spanish themed design that existed hundred years ago.




The history of this church started when our country was colonized by the Spaniards 333 years. Over that period, the Spaniards introduced a lot of their culture and the catholic religion. I remember this story so well because in elementary school, our teacher required us to memorize the song Magellan by Yoyoy Revillame and we also had a role play about the expedition of Ferdinand Magellan and the famous fighting scene of Magellan and Lapulapu.



After praying in the adoration chapel, i then light 3 candles and said a short prayer. This has been my routine every time i visit the church.


While going home, i always pass this alley going to the Cathedral. I just realized that even though its quite mundane, this place also has its own beauty. So i took a photo of the alley before i went home.

I went home with a happy heart and had dinner with my family.
