October Hive Garden Journal - rebuilding again

Preparation for the Winter

20231010_084753.jpg

Winter is coming and I decided to start some gardening activities in preparation for that. It's not that I did not try earlier - in fact I tried to build it in July, but then this year, rain has been devastating. Most of the times its a low pressure situation, and that gives continuous rains for 4-5 days, making the soil tight and thus restricting the growth of plants. And it was very difficult to contain the insects - I even bought a big sprayer to add some chemicals this time. But then I had to give up, they won with continuous rains.

That is the reason, you have not seen a garden post from me since long time. At the end I decided to take care of big plants in our society - kind of a community work. I know taking care of plants gives me some sort of satisfaction, so why not do some good work for the society. So I made it a schedule to spray seaweed and insecticides on these big plants, so that we would get some flowers every day. Now that, the rain has stopped, I went to the nearby govt nursery and got some Chrysanthemum along with French Inca to start with.

To my surprise the nursery even looks deserted for the same reason. The rain has spoiled their plan.

20231007_072908.jpg

20231007_072915.jpg

They have started putting the seeds couple of weeks back only, and look at the size of these saplings. In the interest of time, I got up quite early to finish the work on that day.

20231007_074207.jpg

20231007_074240.jpg

Its a lot of work to make so many pots ready, so I decided to plant on the smaller pots.

Sometimes people think, I am the gardener of the society 😀 but I am happy with that as well. Those who know me, know about my passion for gardening and the amount of effort I put in.

20231007_090511.jpg

It almost took 4 hours to prepare the pots and then replant these Chrysanthemum along with French Inca. In fact, they gave more French Inca saplings and I did put them in a big container to grow for a while, because I was not in a position to make all the pots ready.

20231010_084810.jpg

It will give me a little bandwidth by the time they grow better. And I also planned to take one pot to my native along with some Chrysanthemum - there also it's me who has to put up everything so that Mom gets some flowers in Winter. I have also put some French Inca seeds , but they are yet to mature.

20231010_084827.jpg

If they grow well, there could be hundreds of saplings and can be utilized in our society garden, for which I am also giving guidance. The soil is pretty tight, so I even bought couple of cocopits to mix in that bed.

20231010_084840.jpg

20231010_084739.jpg

So after all these hard work, here they are - hoping for the best to see them ready in a month. And then planned to take everything to my native to be able to put up the mini garden there. Hope you will see some more garden posts now from me - its so much of work that, I literally don't get time to write often here.

That is awesome, I remember I think it was last year when you had to remove all the plant pots from your apartment building roof, is the still the same place?

You got a nice memory, yes, they have given me this space in our garden and not allowing any pot on the roof. Slowly I have acquired more space and they are ok with that, so one side for me.

hehe the advantages of having a photographic memory, mind you it can be a curse as well as a blessing!

That is great though, I think gardening or anything we do outdoors is good for our soul!

Wow, it looks like it was a really busy and fulfilling day for you. We are entering the period of death here. It's the time when everything starts falling off and we have to clear it all up. I have to trim back some of my trees before the snow gets here.

Nursery is decorated with such a pretty vines. And your work is really appropriated alot as gardening requires alot of attention and care. I also planted the same plants last year but birds and rain are the causes of its destruction.

I love how you decided to contribute to the community via gardening. I have spoken to a few people lately who have decided to do that kind of thing because they don't have a garden of their own.

I do worry about the insecticide though.

Nice to see your enthusiasm for gardening here again, we love to see your happy smiling face.

As we grow older, I feel like working for the community for a greater good is giving me some level of satisfaction. Do something good to keep us engaged, irrespective of who thinks what. Most people now a days are behind building for self and then end up alone, better to give to the society and I am sure others will join us sooner or later - reminds me those SUPW work we used to do in schools.

Just as summers are ending and winters are coming, winters are separated for winters and they also need a lot of care, watering them on time has a lot of good effect on our health. If we live in a place where there are more trees and more plants, we can breathe much easier.

It's been a while I saw your post bro, hope you are good?? The issue of rain these days has become something I don't even understand because it rains when no one is prepared for it.. I love the way you are growing your garden, it's indeed a great work to do..

Yes, doing good here, the climate is changing a lot because of global warming. The winter ideally should have been here, but we start feeling it only during late November. Couple of decades back, September alone would bring winter, but we are the ones to blame.

Lol but why should we be blamed. The weather is very unpredictable and some times I just wonder how things are just changing and one is unable to determine when each period will come

Contributing to your community by taking care of the plants is a really noble deed. I call this giving service.

With the amount of effort you put into the plants, I'm certain that the plants are going to grow and thrive beautifully.
