Rain and rainy days.
Yesterday it was cloudy with sunny intervals and showers, today it is rainy all day. While I was at work thinking about the rain, I took a few pictures yesterday and today.

If I take this year into account, it was extremely dry.
Except for a good rain in May, the rest of the year was quite dry.
I would rather say the consequences of that are, many plants are dried and you are fried
Also the consequences of that are spending more time in the garden and a great commitment to watering and maintaining the garden
So that the plants can survive the dry period.
Although this region falls under the temperate continental climate, in the summer it happens that there is no rain for two months
If it does happen, it is something small
Or we are increasingly experiencing supercell storms with strong wind and rain, but it lasts a day or two.
I generally don't do anything in the rain, unless it's pouring and I have something to do.
I coordinate my work before and after the rain.
And when it rains, we rest.
During the summer we really lack rain for the plants.
I live in the plains and I have my own source. So I use a pump to extract the water I need for watering and household purposes.
This year and next year I plan to install a drip irrigation system.
It saves me a lot of time and the water is not wasted.
I don't have any infrastructure for collecting rainwater
Although I have a few gutter pipes that go down. Only one of them has a larger barrel, about 70 liters.
And I move it often.
And even that barrel is not enough for the front garden to be watered in the summer months.
I'm thinking about it, but my gutters are close to the driveway. So it's inconvenient for me to do it in a good way.
There is a lot of useful data on the official website of the Hydrometeorological Service of Serbia. So you can also find the amount of precipitation by month.
I made a screenshot of the amount of precipitation in October over the years.
You will see how much oscillation there is over the years.
And there are two more pictures of the amount of precipitation in Serbia during 2025. I live in the northern part of our country near Novi Sad. According to those maps, we are only 75% of the average for the whole country.

Precisely because of the fluctuations in rainfall, since sometimes the rain can be excessive. I have several small channels in the yard for rainwater drainage and on the street we have a large channel in front of the house for collecting and draining rainwater.
And believe me, there have been situations when that channel was full.

And since today is a rainy day, then we will rest, maybe watch a movie as a family.
Although I am waiting for the rain to stop, I need a neighbor to come and prepare the soil. part of the garden for winter sowing.
Since I am working part by part, he uses a motor cultivator to prepare the soil.

Thanks for reading.
Until next time.
Stay healthy.

Hello @markone85, thank you very much for sharing your experience and productive analysis of the rainy seasons. In my experience, rainy days, if they persist in their variability, have led to differences from what was expected and have added uncertainty to the outcome of the harvests, depending, of course, on the types of crops and their specific characteristics. I also live on the plains, and this year the rainy season came early due to meteorological phenomena. Some crops welcomed it, but others, such as squash, required more care to avoid waterlogging. My gratitude for sharing your experience, which strengthens my learning.

Hi @marilour
Every year is a story in itself, even though we track, measure and have some average, every year tells us its own story.
Kind regards, @markone85 Your reflections are very accurate. Environmental and climatic dynamics bring with them a heavy dose of unpredictability and uncertainty to which we must continually adapt. That is the wonderful thing about gardening: it is a constant learning process with a touch of strategy. Have a successful and productive week.
Thank you
Thanks for this very important information about the analysis of rain...I'm glad I'm reading this..this will add up my knowledge about the nature of rain.

We are so dependent on rain which is fine if it's not a dry season! Rainy movie days are lovely. We don't get many days where it's too wet to go outside at all and I like weeding in the rain as the weeds are easy to pull out.
How much area do you use for the motor cultivator? I'm interested in the difference between planting in disturbed soil or not. There's a lot of gardeners who argue to disturb the soil as little as possible. But if you're gardening a big area for crops o don't think that'll work. Do you mulch?
Now I'm calculating the area :) Approximately up to 300 square meters, that's 3 acres of land that I cultivate with a motor cultivator.
Since last year, we started mulching, and it has proven to be successful in preventing large evaporation of the soil, retaining moisture in the hot months.
Here we practice deep winter plowing, I regularly fertilize the soil with manure or organic replacement.
I even got a meter to test soil fertility.
After plowing, because of the space and it turned out to be practically the upper layer, I work with a motor cultivator. Although I'm currently waiting for good weather for a neighbor to come and prepare part of the land for winter planting.
It's all part of my adaptation, I used to plow the front garden and everything was done with a tractor, but then I didn't have an orchard yet
