A visit to my farm: I harvested cassava from my last year farm

avatar

There is light at the end of each tunnel despite how hard, dark and difficult the tunnel might be. Actually, last year, I did some farming in our piece of land. There, I planted corn, pumpkin, three-leaf-yam, yam and cassava.

During that last year farming season, honestly, it wasn't easy for me as a young lady. Why? Most times, I felt ashamed of myself because, I will see my mates neatly dressed while roving the streets with men or their boyfriends. While I'll be inside farm cultivating and weeding, my mates are in one restaurant eating and drinking. But, knowing that there is light at the end of each tunnel, I made up my mind to push on. But the most annoying part of it is my inability to post my garden in this community then because I haven't join hive then.

I could remember the day one of my friends mocked me because am into farming. But, above all, am happy today seeing the produce of my farm which is the work of my hands. Today, I visited my farm to harvest cassava. What I saw really gave me joy as you too will see below.

right inside my farm

hope you're seeing my cassava tubers?

Cassava is unlike apple fruit or any other fruit that one can easily pluck. To harvest cassava, one need to use or invest his or her power into pulling out the cassava stem from ground as you can see me doing in the first pictures.

After pulling them out, what I saw gave me excess joy. My last year's suffering have paid off. Just take a look at the kind of mighty tubers of cassava I pulled out from the ground. From what am seeing, I can say for sure that my efforts was not futile or invain. It yielded positive result.

After harvesting, I gathered them all together with sack bag as the below picture portrays. To be honest, the work of gathering is not too easy. And I also cut some stem for my present garden. Expect seeing my present farm garden soon.

Wow, sincerely speaking, there is light at the end of each tunnel!!

Just take a look at the kind of cassava I harvested from my farm. It's huge isn't it?

In my locality now, a cup of garri (After processing the cassava, you will get garri. And garri is an official food here in my territory. Many people can't live or survive in a day without garri. @luchyl and @ladyfoth can testify to that.) is 100 NGN (one hundred naira only). Imagine how many cups of garri that will come out from this cassava tubers. If I should buy from market, who can guess how much I gonna spend? Awwwch. Thank God I continued with my farmwork without letup that last year. This is the exact cup am referring to.

Next, I packed them together with a bag. I did it for easy movement. Transporting cassava from farm to house is a big task. Therefore, releaving myself of the big load requires that I pack the whole cassava with sack bag.

After packing, I got 2 full bag of cassava. Since I went with my motorcycle, I transported them from there to my house.

Sincerely, those people running away from farming are Missing a lot. Hope you remembered the girl that mocked me last year because am into farmwork right? Hahaha, my people, after processing the garri, she came to me begging and pleading for some garri because of hunger. Are you eager to know my reaction? Hahaha, I gave her wholeheartedly without reminding her of her past ill-treatment against me. But, little did I know her mind was flogging her. After giving her, she asked me for forgiveness and promised to engage into farming by next year because she have seen the benefits. Today, she's a beggar and myself am both a giver and same time, eating to my satisfaction.

My people, if you don't have a farm, try to have a garden. Plant things like pepper, pumpkin, and other veggies. It's useful. You must not purchase everything you need from market. Am saying this to save you some cost. If you're ready to give it a try, do it and don't forget to share the benefits with us in this community.

This is my first time posting in this community. Hope am welcomed? But from now on, as a farmer I am, expect more from me. Please, give me correction where needed. Thanks for reading. Byeee....
