Climbing the Loma del Cacahual

Greetings friends and lovers of outdoor adventures in contact with nature. One of the experiences of this type that I have enjoyed the most has been to climb Loma del Cacahual, in the province of Ciego de Avila in the central region of Cuba, in the municipality of Florencia also known as "of the beautiful landscapes".

This elevation, with more than 300 meters above sea level, is part of a chain of limestone heights that close to the east in a horseshoe shape with the northern Sierra de Jatibonico, separated from each other by a beautiful river valley of rolling and hilly plains.

It turns out that in this valley in a house in the countryside lives my brother on his father's side with his wife and my nephews. And the last time I was there I went with one of my nephews to climb the steep, overgrown escarpment to the top of the elevation, to enjoy the beautiful views and take some pictures. So early one morning we set out on our way.

So we started the way through the fields towards the base of the escarpment of the elevation, and my nephew guided me along a path somewhat more accessible but still thick with vegetation and outcrops of rocks sometimes slippery by soil moisture, which also appreciated the action of erosion of surface runoff during the rains.

And after walking for a long time in continuous ascent, we reached the top of the hill, where I was dazzled by the beauty of the landscapes that my eyes had the joy of contemplating.

And so, after enjoying the views, taking pictures and touring the area, we decided to return, but this time my nephew wanted us to go down another more difficult path, with lots of vegetation and bushes that made the descent difficult. And what we could not imagine is that the most exciting thing of the occasion would happen to us next, because among the vegetation came out to meet us a huge snake known as majá de Santa María, the largest of the Cuban boas. And we bravely jumped on it and caught it.

After this adrenaline-filled moment, we let the animal go and finished the descent to the valley. It was a unique experience full of emotion in which I was able to enjoy the wonderful nature and take with me these pleasant memories that will remain in my memory with the hope of visiting the area again soon and experience new emotions.
