Reynisfjara Beach
Reynisfjara Beach is now also one of the beaches I have visited 3 times when I have traveled in Iceland. It's mostly requested by my girlfriend that we go back there every time we are in Iceland because she loves beaches and truly, this beach is one of a kind. It is an extremely popular tourist destination for a good reason. The wide beach with black sand, stunning cliffs, hexagonal rocks, and caves make this beach a unique one and a sight you gotta see at least once in your life.
It's a stunning and unique place but also an extremely dangerous one. Reynisfjara is known for sneaker waves. These waves don't always seem high but will come far into the beach and if you happen to be in it you will be swept into the ocean. The current is strong enough that you can't swim to the shore again and will only be carried further away from the coast. Swimming is forbidden there and warning signs are everywhere. The water is cold and when you are swept into the ocean, the rescue can't make it to you in time to save you.
On this day the weather was sunny and fairly calm. In 2021 I wasn't even able to walk in the section of the beach I took the following photos because the water level was too high and waves crashed into the cliffs. The last time I was able to walk there was in 2018. Fortunately, I could go there again this time and see these amazing caves and rock formations.
We just sat there on the black sand for about half an hour staring at the ocean. Soon the wind picked up and started blowing the sand in our faces so we began to walk back. Taking some more photos along the way.
I did this panorama from inside the cave. Stitched together of 2 horizontal photos.
I'm sure we will be going back there when we're back in Iceland at some point. When I'm traveling there with my girlfriend, it's mandatory 😀. But don't mind, it's a great place and definitely worth visiting if you ever travel there.

Beautiful place to view, from the river to the black sand. The last photo left me in awe, the place looks so greenish.
It really is. Although it's no river, its an ocean there 😀. Mountains there have a lot of green moss.
You always go to the most amazing places...I love your posts but they make me miss travelling. I can't right now, but will again. Thanks for sharing some images so I can dream.
