Alí Primera - Street Art [ENG-ESP]

Street art is increasingly present on the walls of towns and cities in Venezuela, something that in my opinion enriches the urban landscape, not only because it brings color to a surface exposed to the public eye, but also culture, information or at least awakens your curiosity, because if you don’t know what it is about what you saw on the street and caught your attention, perhaps you will be motivated to investigate.

El arte callejero está cada vez más presente en las paredes de pueblos y ciudades de Venezuela, algo que en mi opinión enriquece el paisaje urbano, no sólo porque aporta color a una superficie expuesta al ojo público, sino también cultura, información o al menos te despierta la curiosidad, porque si no sabes de qué se trata lo que viste en la calle y te llamó la atención, quizás te motives a investigar.

The mural I present to you in this post pays tribute to Alí Primera, Venezuelan musician, composer and political activist, whose songs that portrayed the political and social reality of the country became popular in the 1970s.

El mural que les presento en esta publicación rinde homenaje a Alí Primera, músico, compositor y activista político venezolano, cuyas canciones que retrataban la realidad política y social del país se popularizaron en la década de 1970.

A native of Falcón state, where he was born on October 31, 1941, he moved to Caracas to study chemistry at the Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV), and it was there that he began his musical career. At first it was just a hobby, but then he ended up dedicating his life to music after the success of his compositions.

Oriundo del estado Falcón, donde nació el 31 de octubre de 1941, se mudó a Caracas para estudiar Química en la Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV), y fue allí que comenzó su carrera musical. Al principio era sólo un pasatiempo, pero luego terminó dedicando su vida a la música tras el éxito que tuvieron sus composiciones.

As it isn’t located in a very busy street, a few months ago I discovered this mural, and I think it is a very well done work, which conveys the essence of the "singer of the people", as he is also known.

Como no se encuentra en una calle muy transitada, hace unos meses fue que descubrí este mural, y me parece una obra muy bien lograda, que transmite la esencia del “cantor del pueblo”, como también se le conoce.

I don't know when it was made, but by the wear and tear of the paint in many parts, I estimate that it is a few years old. It also has no visible signature, perhaps it was in one of the corners where the paint has been falling off.

No sé en qué fecha se hizo, pero por el desgaste que tiene la pintura en muchas partes, calculo que tiene unos cuantos años. Tampoco tiene ninguna firma visible, quizás estaba en una de las esquinas donde la pintura se ha ido cayendo.

Alí Primera recorded more than 15 albums during his career and was one of the most outstanding interpreters of the "latin american necessary song". On February 16, 1985, he died in a car accident in Caracas. By the way, his family recently announced that a movie about his life will be released next year, the trailer is already available on the Internet.

Alí Primera grabó más de 15 discos durante su carrera y fue uno de los más destacados intérpretes de la “canción necesaria latinoamericana”. El 16 de febrero de 1985, falleció en un accidente automovilístico en Caracas. Por cierto, hace poco su familia anunció que el año que viene va a estrenarse una película sobre su vida, el tráiler ya está disponible en Internet.
