reetings, dear friends of the #visualshots community. Today I want to share some images with you where I focus on signs. What’s this all about? Well, it’s something that has helped me a lot when photographing on the streets of Havana: learning to recognize signs.

aludos, amigos queridos de la comunidad #visualshots. Hoy quiero compartirles algunas imágenes donde hago énfasis en los signos. ¿De qué se trata? Pues de algo que me ha ayudado mucho a la hora de fotografiar en las calles de La Habana: aprender a reconocer las señales.

And I’m not just talking about traffic signs—which are also important, because we don’t want to get run over—but those other signs that point the way.
Y no me refiero solo a las del tránsito —que también son importantes, porque no queremos terminar atropellados—, sino a esas otras que te van marcando el camino.

I’m talking about the everyday stuff: people looking at you suspiciously, several police officers on a corner, too many people gathered on a street… small details that tell you where to go or, better yet, where not to go.
Voy más a lo cotidiano: personas que te miran de forma sospechosa, varios policías en una esquina, demasiada gente concentrada en una calle… pequeños detalles que te dicen por dónde ir o, mejor aún, por dónde no.

Often, it’s even the locals themselves who warn you: “Hey, don’t go that way—it’s dangerous.” And honestly, you’re grateful for it, because you have to be careful on the streets in these turbulent times.
Muchas veces incluso son los propios vecinos los que te alertan: “Muchacho, no vayas por ahí, que es peligroso”. Y la verdad, se agradece, porque en la calle hay que andar con cuidado en estos tiempos tan convulsos.

I have been planning to do a post with signs of all kinds, but I haven't yet.

There was a guy on the legacy chain, who was very good at this and I admired his work a lot, too bad he quit a long time ago.

I love your photos, even though it shows the sad reality at some places.

I also find the topic of signs fascinating; here in the city it's a social phenomenon, and there are even many very curious ones that are part of popular tradition.
