Street photography is simply "obsessive" (at least in my particular case).... So it is very often that I need to take a camera in my hands and go out to the streets to shoot instinctively... I accept it, it's compulsive...

Hacer fotografía de calle es algo sencillamente "obsesivo" (cuando menos en mi caso particular)... Entonces es muy frecuente que necesite tomar una cámara entre mis manos y salir a las calles a disparar instintivamente... Lo acepto, es algo compulsivo...

These pictures are from earlier today (26 Dec.)... It was a morning with a ceiling of whitish clouds, even lights and people slowly waking up in the streets of the town, I guess recovering from the effects of the previous day's celebrations, because here Christmas is celebrated to the rhythm of revelry, binge eating and loud music (a strange way of doing it, in my opinion, but that is the "tradition")...

Estas fotografías son de hoy temprano (26 Dic.)... Fue una mañana con techo de nubes blanquecinas, de luces parejas y de personas desperezándose lentamente en las calles del pueblo, supongo que recuperándose de los efectos de las celebraciones del día anterior, pues aquí la navidad se celebra al ritmo de la juerga, comilonas y música estridente (una extraña manera de hacerlo, según mi juicio, pero esa es la "tradición"...

For the purposes of many of these people I'm usually "the crazy camera guy" and I'm usually part of the everyday landscape, so it's easy for me to do this kind of wide-framed and relatively impersonal street photography.... Also, today I decided to use a 100 mm prime lens, that's enough to not have to get too close to people and do this...

Para efectos de muchas de estas personas suelo ser "el tipo loco de la cámara" y suelo ser parte del paisaje cotidiano, así que es fácil para mi hacer este tipo de fotografías callejeras de encuadre amplio y relativamente impersonales... Además, hoy decidí usar un lente de focal fija de 100 mm, eso es suficiente para no tener que acercarme demasiado a las personas y hacer esto...

I turn most of my photos to black and white, because simply "the streets of my village seem to be in black and white most of the time"... This is one of the characteristics of these corners far from the cities, I guess!... It is a town of meager and rare joys.... But also of a deep eloquence and humanity...

Viro la mayoría de mis fotos al blanco y negro, porque simplemente "las calles de mi pueblo parecen estar en blanco y negro casi siempre"... ¡Esta es una de las características de estos rincones alejados de las urbes, supongo!... Es un pueblo de alegrías magras y poco frecuentes... Pero también de una elocuencia y humanidad profundas...

The funny thing is that they are always the same streets, but I learned to understand them over the years.... I usually feel their "pulse", I can almost foresee what kind of images I will find when I walk through them, I understand their lights, I learned how they are every day of the week and how they vary with the hours and even with the months of the year... It is something really fascinating... That is part of this "getting deeply involved with the photo" that I like to experience so much.

Lo curioso es que son siempre las mismas calles, pero aprendí a comprenderles a través de los años... Suelo sentir su "pulso", suelo casi prever con qué tipo de imágenes me encontraré al recorrerlas, entiendo sus luces, aprendí como son cada día de la semana y como varían con las horas y hasta con los meses del año... Es algo realmente fascinante... Eso es parte de ese "ligarse profundamente con la foto" que tanto me gusta experimentar.

The effect that street photography has on me is so profound that I sometimes perceive myself as if I could observe myself there in the streets, rummaging in the town's bowels, recording their daily life without complex events, like someone who sees a river flowing by and sees himself on the shore.... It's something "crazy", isn't it? But I have always said that photography came to me to make me grow internally, so maybe that is what I am referring to in these lines.

El efecto que ejerce la fotografía callejera en mi, es tan profundo que a veces suelo percibirme a mi mismo como si yo pudiese observarme allí en las calles, rebuscando en las entrañas del pueblo, registrando su cotidiano devenir sin eventos complejos, como quien ve un río pasar y se ve a si mismo en la orilla... ¿Es algo "loco" verdad?... Pero siempre he dicho que la fotografía vino a mi para hacerme crecer internamente, entonces es eso quizás a lo que me refiero con estas lineas.
