My village streets, as far as I'm concerned, are made up of many different things happening at the same time. I'm talking about old cars, people of course, old facades, graffiti on the walls, cracks, strange corners and much more... But of all this, what perhaps moves me most is the look of the dogs that I meet every day in my streets...

Las calles de mi pueblo, en lo que a mi respecta, se componen de muchas cosas distintas ocurriendo a un mismo tiempo. Hablo de viejos autos, de personas por supuesto, de fachadas antiguas, de grafitis en las paredes, de grietas, de rincones raros y de mucho más... Pero de todo esto lo que más me conmueve quizás, es la mirada de lo perros que hallo a diario en mis calles...

Dogs are an integral part of the streetscape in Montalbán... In reality it is very difficult to find totally stray dogs here, because what actually happens is that the neighborhoods somehow “adopt dogs” and these dogs live in the streets, but it is common that they spend the night in garages and yards of houses or even in lots of car repair shops and other types of dependencies like that. Of course, these dogs are accustomed to being on the streets during the day and so they tend to come and go freely from one place to another. It is also very common for people in different neighborhoods to place food and water on the doors of their houses to feed these animals. A lot of nice things happen here when it comes to the relationship of dogs and humans. I have seen my neighbors even bathe stray dogs and (as in our neighborhood for example) we have a kind of “little communal first aid kit” where antibiotics, painkillers and worm killers in aerosol spray are kept to treat stray dogs when necessary... The few veterinary doctors that still live in our town also do a wonderful job, rescuing, caring for, feeding and even finding homes for stray dogs... So this is a town whose streets simply “can't be understood without its dogs”...

Los perros son parte integral del paisaje callejero de Montalbán... En realidad aquí es muy difícil hallar perros totalmente callejeros, pues lo que en realidad sucede es que los vecindarios de alguna manera "adoptan perros" y estos viven en las calles, pero es común que pernocten en los garajes y patios de las casas o incluso en lotes de talleres automovilísticos y otro tipo de dependencias por el estilo. Claro está, estos perros están acostumbrados a estar durante el día en las calles y entonces suelen ir y venir con libertad entre uno y otro lugar. También es muy común que las personas en los distintos vecindarios coloquen alimentos y agua en las puertas de las casas, esto para alimentar a estos animales. Aquí suceden muchas cosas bonitas cuando se trata de la relación de perros y humanos. He visto a mis vecinos incluso bañar perros callejeros y (como en nuestro vecindario por ejemplo) tenemos una especie de "pequeño botiquín de primeros auxilios comunal" en donde se tienen antibióticos, analgésicos y mata-gusanos en aerosol para atender a los perros callejeros cuando es necesario... Los pocos médicos veterinarios que aún viven en nuestro pueblo, también hacen una labor maravillosa pues, rescatan, cuidan, alimentan y hasta consiguen casas de adopción para perros callejeros... Así que este es un pueblo cuyas calles simplemente "no se pueden entender sin sus perros"...

For my part, I can say that the dogs in my streets have made me more human and have given me countless fantastic experiences, which have complemented my activity as a street photographer in a wonderful way. I have dogs that recognize me from a distance and run to me, I have dogs that accompany me along my walks, I have dogs that allow me to pet them and talk to them and I know they understand me, I even have dogs that know where I live and come to the doors of my house looking for a little food and some affection too... I could write and write endlessly about what it is like to have so many dogs around...

Por mi parte, puedo decir que los perros en mis calles me han hecho más humano y me han brindado un sinfín de experiencias fantásticas, las cuales han complementado de manera maravillosa mi actividad como fotógrafo callejero. Tengo perros los cuales me reconocen a distancia y corren hasta mí, tengo perros los cuales me acompañan a lo largo de mis recorridos, tengo aquellos que me permiten acariciarlos y les hablo y sé que me entienden, tengo incluso perros que saben en donde vivo y llegan a las puertas de mi casa en busca de un poco de comida y algo de afecto también... Yo podría escribir y escribir sin parar acerca de como es esto de tener tantos perros cercanos...

Bien, este ha sido mi post de "Perros en mis calles" y espero lo hayan disfrutado. Pronto haré uno de "Gatos en mis calles" porque los gatos también tienen su parte en esta "simbiosis" encantadora entre humanos y animales que con frecuencia se puede ver ocurriendo aquí en las calles de Montalbán... 😉

ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL NOTE: Photographs captured with my Nikon D7000 DSLR camera in RAW format, then processed in Adobe Camera RAW for adjustments regarding light, sharpening, contrast and depth... They were then exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape v3.7

NOTA TÉCNICA ADICIONAL: Fotografias capturadas con mi cámara DSLR Nikon D7000 en formato RAW, procesadas posteriormente en Adobe Camera RAW para ajustes relativos a luz, afilado, contraste y profundidad... Luego fueron exportadas a formato JGP sobre el cual se llevaron a cabo modificaciones menores como enderezado y agregado de marcas de agua usando PhotoScape v3.7
