Golden Tones in Retiro
The Retiro neighborhood is and always will be one of the favorite places when choosing where to capture moments, people, urban landscapes, and, of course, architecture. In fact, I believe it is the most important area in terms of classic-style buildings and structures that also have interesting histories, apart from the San Nicolás neighborhood.
So, we can start with the majestic Basilica of the Blessed Sacrament, inaugurated in 1916. Although it is hidden now, this was not the case when it was inaugurated. It is one of the most impressive cathedrals in the area.
For those who like wide-angle perspectives, this is the place and the objective. You could say that it is on an alleyway, so if you want to photograph this cathedral, you will probably need at least an 18mm lens.
This is another one of my favorite alleyways because you can create a beautiful scene in this place, with the old buildings on the side and the modern business buildings in the background.
That cobbled path gives that area a special touch.
It's impossible not to capture some of the planes passing by, as the airport is quite close and you can see them flying every 10 minutes.
Here we have another of the jewels of this Retiro area, the building that was the tallest skyscraper for the first decade of the last century. This building obscures the Basilica of the Blessed Sacrament that I mentioned earlier.
A more detailed and closer photo of the Kavanagh Building's design, lines, windows, and small square air conditioning units that look like tiny boxes.
The golden reds achieved in editing (Lightroom) can help make the image look completely different.
A postcard of a building I don't recognize, but which caught my attention because of the angle used in this composition.
