My favourite piece of clothing - an upcycling project

I just made those trousers, and I would wear them every day for the rest of my life!

Pretty bold statement, but so it is.

When sewing my own clothes there are many different outcomes to it.

I like it, I love it, I am disappointed, I like it for the day and never wear it again…

And sometimes I just nail it all in one piece and I truly feel like I am going to keep and wear that piece forever!

I don’t have to mention, that in terms of the reward, that is the most seldom but also the absolute best feeling I get out of sewing my own wardrobes.

A big part goes also to the intention with which I start a project.

Weather I am sewing an item for the learning’s sake, of trying and figuring out something new. Learning to adapt patterns or include them in my repertoire.
It could be aiming to match the very specific ideas I have in my head. Such as dresses or outfits for specific moments.
Or simply the need of a specific and unspectacular piece in my wardrobe, that I sew for myself instead of buying it in a shop. Maybe leggings.

Now after I dropped all those thoughts and hints, what about those trousers I just made?

I could probably split my life in two parts, when it comes to my clothing habits.
Eighter, I accumulate lots of clothes, accessories, shoes and what not, experiment with different styles every day. Any colour is welcome, I never know what to wear but also have a lot of fun trying out whatever piece passes through my hands.
And then I shift. I need space and don’t want to own anything. Just a few tops and trousers and leave it as simple, that all my belongings fit into one backpack.

Since I lived through those very opposite phases a few times in my life now. I felt like finding a different way of dealing with my fashion-needs, than switching from hording to getting rid of everything and back again. Which starts to feel like nonsense after the first repetition of the cycle.

With those thoughts in the back of my mind I am considering different ways.

Creating a capsule wardrobe for myself with a colour theme was one, that is still spooking around and might still be carried out.

Surely the desire to design my wardrobe to my needs and likings, in a way that I will wear and appreciate every single piece in it, is the way I am aiming for.

One question keeps on popping up.
If it comes down to choosing one outfit, and I could wear nothing else, what would it be?

The question couldn’t be simpler. Over the past years there is one outfit I could, would and did wear over and over, without ever getting over it. Tired yes but over, never.

A black or dark gray cashmere jumper with a round neck and adidas trousers or leggings.

I would choose that outfit to go out, chill at home, pack it when travelling or going to work.

Any day I do not know what to wear, I always have that last option, that I know I will feel good in.

Where is the clinch? So why don’t I actually only wear that one thing over and over, forever?

Because wearing only black and too much comfort kills my inspiration.

Then I remember, that sewing my own clothes does involve, that I can do whatever I want. There are no rules. If I don’t own it yet I can make it!

Why not bring some colour in my all-time-favorite uniform?

Recently I found those golden velvet trousers in a secondhand shop, it was love at first sight, though they were way to tight around waist and ankles. But that shouldn’t put me off.

Meanwhile I carry some adidas pants with me. They were my brothers, long time ago. And if I am honest, I was pushing a bit far, still wearing them with a whole at the back and no more elastic around the waist.

And that’s how the fusion trousers happened.

Take the old trousers apart...

...which means unpicking

...by two

...at least the unpicking leftovers make it worth it

...thinking, figuring out, and assembling in a new way

...sewing it together, of course

...and a final touch

embroidery.

Here goes my favourite piece of clothing of all times.

Embroidery and double pockets.

Golden velvet, stripes and a little bit of kesityu embroidery. I am happy!

Thank you all to pass by, it's awesome to have you around! Enjoy your week!

All photos are mine taken by me during the sewing process.

They look stunning, the colour and texture of the velvet is gorgeous and set off so nicely by the black and white stripes. Maybe an adidas x kesityu collaboration coming up? 🙂

a hole at the back and no more elastic at the waist

Possibly the definition of favourite trousers 😁

I mean I don't know how, but the casual classic adidas pants fits so perfectly with the rich velvet golden fabric. Seems like a unique piece that you will be wearing for years🙂

You have done really well with all the details and just like me sometimes I was as much clothes in my wardrobe so I make different changes and in various colors while other times I feel like having just a few and almost give out what ever I no longer desire to wear.

Thanks for sharing dear @kesityu.fashion.

Glorious, dearest @kesityu.fashion !! I adore your style; the finished garment is really beautiful and special - especially the details and embroidery!! 😍 I love too, this way of changing trousers; widening them by adding a side-strip which opens them up - I did that a couple of times recently, and LOVE the result: I love that we can take apart anything that isn't working, and make it the perfect, ideal clothing for us... Your challenge to yourself around making the perfect outfit - that really resonates - I like to wear a super-comfortable, super-funky, utility, colourful, funny clothing!

Much love!

The combination in this project would never have occurred to me but it turned out very well! It's not usually fabrics that go together but it's worth taking a risk because you can get great outfits like this. It looks very comfortable, congratulations for your idea :)

At one stage I did in fact fear that this combination was too much, already regretting to have taken apart the two pieces, but sometimes it rescues itself by just keeping on...:)
Many thanks!!!💕

I really liked your publication, the restoration. The combination of fabrics and colors was great. Sometimes messing up limits us to do it, it's a bit cumbersome, I think it discourages us. Well, you have good taste. Greetings.
