Leapmotor T03 Probefahrt: Wird er der Nachfolger unseres alten Smart?

Vor einiger Zeit hatten wir bereits über unsere Probefahrt mit dem neuen elektrischen Renault Twingo geschrieben. Auf dem Papier sah der kleine Stromer durchaus interessant aus. Während der Fahrt sprang der Funke bei meiner Frau jedoch nicht über.

Nun stand die nächste Probefahrt an. Dieses Mal ging es um den Leapmotor T03.

Das Ergebnis war vollkommen anders.

Meine Frau setzte sich hinein, fuhr los und war innerhalb kurzer Zeit hellauf begeistert.

Auf der Suche nach einem Nachfolger

Meine Frau fährt zurzeit noch einen Smart der ersten Generation aus dem Jahr 2002. Der kleine Smart begleitet uns schon sehr lange und ist gerade in der Stadt nach wie vor ausgesprochen praktisch.

Er ist extrem kurz, übersichtlich und passt in Parklücken, bei denen Fahrer größerer Fahrzeuge vermutlich gar nicht erst über einen Parkversuch nachdenken würden.

Nach mehr als zwanzig Jahren darf der mögliche Nachfolger jedoch etwas moderner, komfortabler und sicherer sein. Trotzdem soll er weiterhin kompakt bleiben, denn das Auto wird hauptsächlich für Einkäufe, kurze Strecken und den täglichen Stadtverkehr benötigt.

Der Leapmotor T03 passt auf den ersten Blick sehr gut zu diesem Fahrprofil.

Einsteigen und direkt wohlfühlen

Bereits auf den ersten Metern fiel auf, wie angenehm sich der T03 fahren lässt.

Der Elektroantrieb beschleunigt gleichmäßig und ohne Unterbrechungen. Die Lenkung ist angenehm leichtgängig und das Fahrzeug lässt sich mühelos durch den Stadtverkehr bewegen.

Auch die etwas höhere Sitzposition gefiel meiner Frau sehr gut. Sie sorgt für eine gute Übersicht und erinnert in dieser Hinsicht ein wenig an ihren alten Smart.

Natürlich ist der Leapmotor deutlich länger als der kleine Zweisitzer. Trotzdem wirkte er bei der Probefahrt weder sperrig noch unhandlich.

Er fühlt sich weiterhin wie ein echtes Stadtauto an, bietet aber gleichzeitig vier Türen, eine Rückbank und deutlich mehr Platz für den Alltag.

Ein Geräusch für mehr Sicherheit

Bei niedriger Geschwindigkeit war ein deutlich hörbares Geräusch wahrzunehmen. Zunächst könnte man denken, dass es direkt vom Elektromotor stammt.

Tatsächlich dürfte es sich um das akustische Warnsystem für Fußgänger handeln, das sogenannte AVAS.

Elektroautos sind bei langsamer Fahrt beinahe lautlos. Das künstlich erzeugte Geräusch hilft Fußgängern, Radfahrern und besonders sehbehinderten Menschen dabei, das herannahende Fahrzeug rechtzeitig wahrzunehmen.

Nach unserem Eindruck war der Ton bis ungefähr 20 oder 30 Kilometer pro Stunde zu hören. Mit zunehmender Geschwindigkeit trat er immer weiter in den Hintergrund.

Wir empfanden das Geräusch nicht als störend. Nach kurzer Zeit achteten wir kaum noch darauf.

Nur eine Ausstattung und fast alles ist dabei

Einer der größten Vorteile des Leapmotor T03 ist seine umfangreiche Serienausstattung.

Bei vielen anderen Fahrzeugen gilt der beworbene Preis nur für eine einfache Basisversion. Sobald eine bessere Klimaanlage, eine Rückfahrkamera, Assistenzsysteme oder andere Komfortmerkmale hinzukommen, steigt der endgültige Kaufpreis schnell deutlich an.

Beim T03 ist das wesentlich einfacher.

Es gibt im Grunde nur eine umfangreiche Ausstattung. Klimaautomatik, Rückfahrkamera, Parksensoren, adaptiver Tempomat, digitales Fahrerdisplay, großer Touchscreen, Navigation, elektrische Parkbremse, Leichtmetallfelgen und das Panorama Glasdach sind bereits vorhanden.

Wie man bei uns so schön sagt, besitzt der T03 praktisch volle Hütte.

Man muss sich nicht erst durch verschiedene Ausstattungslinien und lange Aufpreislisten arbeiten.

Gerade im Vergleich zum Twingo fällt das deutlich auf. Der Twingo konnte meine Frau während der Probefahrt nicht überzeugen. Der Leapmotor fühlte sich für sie nicht nur angenehmer an, sondern bot auch das vollständigere Gesamtpaket.

Mehr Platz als im alten Smart

Bei der Parkplatzsuche ist der alte Smart wahrscheinlich kaum zu schlagen.

Der T03 bietet dafür deutlich mehr Alltagstauglichkeit. Er besitzt vier vollwertige Türen, eine nutzbare Rückbank und einen Kofferraum, der für Einkäufe und die üblichen Dinge des Alltags ausreicht.

Der Kofferraum ist natürlich kein Raumwunder. Für den vorgesehenen Einsatzzweck erscheint er aber vollkommen ausreichend. Wird mehr Platz benötigt, kann die Rückbank umgelegt werden.

Auch das große Panorama Glasdach trägt zum positiven Eindruck bei. Es lässt viel Licht in den Innenraum und sorgt dafür, dass sich der kleine Wagen deutlich geräumiger anfühlt, als man es von außen erwarten würde.

Der Preis ist das stärkste Argument

Der Leapmotor T03 wird für rund 18.900 Euro angeboten.

Angesichts der umfangreichen Ausstattung ist bereits dieser Preis bemerkenswert.

Noch interessanter wird die Rechnung, wenn man eine mögliche staatliche Förderung berücksichtigt.

Sollten wir die Voraussetzungen für den maximalen Förderbetrag von 6.000 Euro erfüllen, würde die Rechnung folgendermaßen aussehen:

18.900 Euro Kaufpreis

abzüglich 6.000 Euro Förderung

ergibt 12.900 Euro

Damit würde man für knapp 13.000 Euro einen neuen elektrischen Kleinwagen mit vier Türen, Klimaautomatik, Rückfahrkamera, adaptivem Tempomat, Panorama Glasdach und zahlreichen Assistenzsystemen erhalten.

In dieser Preisklasse muss man erst einmal ein vergleichbares Neufahrzeug finden.

Natürlich hängt die tatsächliche Förderung von den geltenden Bedingungen und den persönlichen Voraussetzungen ab. Bevor eine endgültige Kaufentscheidung getroffen wird, müssen wir deshalb genau prüfen, welcher Förderbetrag in unserem Fall tatsächlich möglich ist.

Sollte jedoch die maximale Förderung greifen, wäre das Preis Leistungs Verhältnis nur schwer zu schlagen.

Das Fahrgefühl entscheidet

Technische Daten, Ausstattungslisten und Preisvergleiche sind wichtig. Am Ende muss sich ein Auto aber auch richtig anfühlen.

Meine Frau ist sowohl den neuen Twingo als auch den Leapmotor T03 gefahren.

Beim Twingo entstand keine wirkliche Begeisterung. Beim Leapmotor war das vollkommen anders. Sie fühlte sich schnell wohl und hatte sichtbar Freude an der Probefahrt.

Dieser persönliche Eindruck wiegt für uns schwerer als jede Vergleichstabelle.

Der T03 soll bei uns kein Fahrzeug für lange Urlaubsreisen und regelmäßige Autobahnetappen werden. Dafür haben wir andere Möglichkeiten.

Er soll den alten Smart ersetzen und hauptsächlich für kurze Wege, Einkäufe und den Stadtverkehr eingesetzt werden.

Genau für diesen Zweck könnte er beinahe das perfekte Auto sein.

Unser Fazit

Der Leapmotor T03 hat uns positiv überrascht.

Er ist kompakt, angenehm zu fahren, umfangreich ausgestattet und deutlich praktischer als der alte Smart. Gleichzeitig bleibt er klein und übersichtlich genug für den täglichen Stadtverkehr.

Das wichtigste Argument ist jedoch die Begeisterung meiner Frau. Sie muss das Auto schließlich hauptsächlich fahren und soll sich darin wohlfühlen.

Beim Twingo sprang der Funke nicht über. Beim Leapmotor T03 war er sofort da.

Nimmt man die umfangreiche Ausstattung, das angenehme Fahrgefühl und den attraktiven Preis zusammen, entsteht ein Gesamtpaket, das momentan nur schwer zu schlagen ist.

Könnte der Leapmotor T03 der Nachfolger unseres Smart von 2002 werden?

Nach dieser Probefahrt bewegt sich die Antwort sehr deutlich in Richtung Ja.

Leapmotor T03 Test Drive: Could It Replace Our Old Smart?

Some time ago, we wrote about our test drive with the new electric Renault Twingo. On paper, the small electric car looked quite interesting. During the drive, however, the spark simply did not jump over for my wife.

Now it was time for another test drive. This time, we took a closer look at the Leapmotor T03.

The result was completely different.

My wife sat down, started driving and was delighted within a very short time.

Looking for a Successor

My wife currently drives a first generation Smart from 2002. The little Smart has been with us for a very long time and is still extremely practical, especially in the city.

It is incredibly short, easy to see out of and fits into parking spaces where drivers of larger vehicles would probably not even consider trying to park.

After more than twenty years, however, its possible successor may be a little more modern, comfortable and safe. It should still remain compact because the car will mainly be used for shopping, short journeys and everyday city traffic.

At first glance, the Leapmotor T03 fits this driving profile very well.

Getting In and Feeling Comfortable

Within the first few metres, we noticed how pleasant the T03 is to drive.

The electric drive accelerates smoothly and without interruptions. The steering is pleasantly light, and the vehicle can be guided through city traffic without much effort.

My wife also liked the slightly higher seating position. It provides a good view of the surroundings and, in this respect, feels a little like her old Smart.

Of course, the Leapmotor is considerably longer than the small two seater. Nevertheless, it never felt bulky or difficult to handle during the test drive.

It still feels like a real city car, but it also offers four doors, a rear bench and considerably more space for everyday life.

A Sound for Greater Safety

At low speeds, we could hear a clearly noticeable sound. At first, one might think that it comes directly from the electric motor.

In reality, it is probably the acoustic warning system for pedestrians, known as AVAS.

Electric cars are almost silent when travelling slowly. The artificially generated sound helps pedestrians, cyclists and especially visually impaired people notice the approaching vehicle in time.

In our experience, the sound was audible up to approximately 20 or 30 kilometres per hour. As the speed increased, it gradually faded into the background.

We did not find the sound disturbing. After a short time, we hardly noticed it anymore.

One Equipment Version With Almost Everything Included

One of the greatest advantages of the Leapmotor T03 is its extensive standard equipment.

With many other vehicles, the advertised price only applies to a simple basic model. Once better climate control, a reversing camera, assistance systems or other comfort features are added, the final purchase price quickly increases.

With the T03, things are much simpler.

There is essentially only one extensively equipped version. Automatic climate control, a reversing camera, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, a digital driver display, a large touchscreen, navigation, an electric parking brake, alloy wheels and the panoramic glass roof are already included.

As we like to say in Germany, the T03 is practically fully loaded.

There is no need to work through several trim levels and long lists of optional extras.

This is particularly noticeable when compared with the Twingo. The Twingo did not convince my wife during the test drive. The Leapmotor not only felt more pleasant to her but also offered the more complete overall package.

More Space Than the Old Smart

When it comes to finding a parking space, the old Smart is probably almost impossible to beat.

In return, the T03 offers considerably more everyday practicality. It has four proper doors, a usable rear bench and a boot that provides enough room for shopping and normal daily use.

The boot is certainly not enormous. For the intended purpose, however, it appears completely sufficient. When more space is required, the rear bench can be folded down.

The large panoramic glass roof also contributes to the positive impression. It allows plenty of light into the interior and makes the small car feel much more spacious than one might expect from the outside.

The Price Is the Strongest Argument

The Leapmotor T03 is offered for around €18,900.

Considering the extensive equipment, even this price is remarkable.

The calculation becomes even more interesting when possible government support is taken into account.

Should we meet the requirements for the maximum support of €6,000, the calculation would look like this:

€18,900 purchase price

minus €6,000 support

equals €12,900

For just under €13,000, one would receive a new electric small car with four doors, automatic climate control, a reversing camera, adaptive cruise control, a panoramic glass roof and numerous assistance systems.

Finding a comparable new vehicle in this price range would be very difficult.

Of course, the actual support depends on the applicable conditions and personal eligibility. Before making a final purchase decision, we therefore need to check carefully which amount would actually apply in our case.

However, if the maximum support is available, the value for money would be very difficult to beat.

The Driving Experience Is What Matters

Technical specifications, equipment lists and price comparisons are important. In the end, however, a car must also feel right.

My wife has driven both the new Twingo and the Leapmotor T03.

The Twingo did not create any real enthusiasm. With the Leapmotor, the situation was completely different. She quickly felt comfortable and clearly enjoyed the test drive.

For us, this personal impression matters more than any comparison table.

The T03 would not be used as a vehicle for long holiday journeys or regular motorway trips. We have other options for that.

It would replace the old Smart and mainly be used for short journeys, shopping and city traffic.

For exactly this purpose, it could be an almost perfect car.

Our Conclusion

The Leapmotor T03 surprised us in a very positive way.

It is compact, pleasant to drive, extensively equipped and considerably more practical than the old Smart. At the same time, it remains small and easy to handle in everyday city traffic.

The most important argument, however, is my wife’s enthusiasm. She will be the main driver of the car and should feel comfortable in it.

The spark did not jump over with the Twingo. With the Leapmotor T03, it was there almost immediately.

When the extensive equipment, pleasant driving experience and attractive price are considered together, the result is an overall package that is currently very difficult to beat.

Could the Leapmotor T03 become the successor to our 2002 Smart?

After this test drive, the answer is moving very clearly towards yes.
