The Best Pan Fried Pork Dumplings!


Hello, friends especially foodies!


Recently when craved for pan fried dumplings, well known here is as kuotie, i took my boyfriend to a restaurant, nearby from my house, which well known for its' kuotie. Now, let me tell you our experience there.


The name of the restaurant is Santong Kuotieh Suikiaw 68.

The restaurant has parking lots at its' front.


When you come closer to the place, you could see that it has the open kitchen, only to process pan fried dumplings.


A chef was preparing some dumplings when we arrived there.


Inside, a waiter came then gave us their menu. On first page, they showed their most favorite menu, dumplings. They had the pan fried ones named kuotie, and the steamed ones named swikiaw. For swikiau you could ask these to be served dry or with the soup.


Next, they have sekba u siang ju (traditional herb pork organs).

In this section, mostly they served pork organs, like ear, tongue, colon, nose, intestine, belly, meat, lungs, cheek, skin and small intestine. They also had tofu and egg, cooked with the same traditional herb style.


They also have shewmay, wonton, meatballs (fish/beef/pork), chicken & mushroom noodle/flat noodle/vermicelli, fried noodle/flat noodle/vermicelli pork/chicken, noodle/flat noodle/vermicelli in soup, chicken & mushroom noodle/flat noodle with meatball, chicken & mushroom noodle/flat noodle with wonton, pork/chicken flat noodle in gravy, and ifumie. For rice, they have pork mixed rice, capcay rice, and some kind of fried rice.


For meat and seafood, they have sapo tofu, angsio tofu, mun tofu, capcay, nanking chicken, chicken in butter sauce, sweet & sour chicken, stirred fried chicken with mushroom, fuyunghay, crispy fried shrimp with sweet & sour sauce, fried gourami with tofu and salted black beans gravy sauce, fried gourami in sweet & sour sauce, and crispy fried calamari with sweet & sour sauce. For vegetables, they have fried eel cooked with lettuce, stir fried pakcoy with garlic, stir fried water spinach with garlic, and chicken/pork/fish soup/stir fried with savory sour veggie.


For beverages, they have tea, iced tea, sweet iced tea, liang tea, milk tea, lemon tea, soft drink, mineral water, beer, bottled tea, iced aloe vera, iced lime, iced passion fruit, iced young coconut, iced orange young coconut, and iced orange. And they also have some kind of juice, like avocado, strawberry, soursop, tomato, mango, star fruit, pure orange, and guava.


It was still not yet 11 am when we were there, but look at some customers already there.. We could say that this restaurant has been famous over decades. For the dining area is just simple, but it has soft chairs and air conditioners, so it is quite comfy.


Not a long time after had ordered, their KUOTIE came. We ordered 10 pcs of it for two persons.


Rightaway, i put on the condiments for us.

The must have items for the sauce recipe hack are garlic, chili sauce that has rough texture, savory soy sauce then don't forget the authentic sour chili sauce.


Well, then our other orders came to our table too. My boyfriend ordered pork mixed rice and i ordered fish meatballs in soup with rice,

oh looks like they forgot my other order, tofu in traditional herb.. And it came so long (after my boyfriend asked them), yes they forgot it.


Now, let me tell you one by one the taste of flavour of the food we ordered there. First i would like to share about the special in this place, KUO TIE (pan fried dumplings).

Their kuotie had soft crispy thin skin. With pork meat and veggie as the filling (look at its texture that a bit oily), its' original flavour was savory and it was so tasty. The additional sauce hack i made, made it more special because with the sauce, i got the sour, sweet, savory, and spicy flavour too. So our dumplings had lots of flavour.

Beside tasted so good, their pan fried dumplings also had great smell too. It is a must have dish you should try!


Next, let me try their FISH BALLS.

It had light savory and sweet flavour. The balls were chewy but soft. It served with soup and i couldn't feel the broth. Not kind of my choice for fishballs.


My boyfriend menu, PORK MIXED RICE. And i tried the meat too.

The meats were chicken and fried pork with ngohiong (pork cake), and pork satay, with egg. The flavour of the meats were all just so so, yes i mean they had only light flavour of savory with the red sauce that brought sweet flavour. Their ngohiong had savory flavour and satay was sweet. Nothing special with it, really!


The tofu that came so long (they forgot about it).

It cooked with the traditional herb. It tasted sweet and a bit savory. But that day i thought they overcooked it so that the outter skin was a bit hard :(.


As the conclusion, sorry to say that their other menus that we ordered that day were all just ordinary. Nothing special there except their pan fried dumplings (kuotie). I recommend you come yourselves to try their pan fried dumplings!

Wow dumplings! this is one of my favorite. Hmm, I also eat pork intestines, liver as long its properly cooked and seasoned. I am glad you enjoyed your food.

Thanks for sharing the hack to make a perfect sauce for pan fried dumplings. Their menu had some of my favorite foods. The place was also cozy and they have many options for a customer to eat. It all looks tasty and flavorful. 😊
