Eternity./Вічність. (En/Ua)

Hello everyone. On my way to Lviv, I suddenly changed my route and drove through Zolochiv. You see, I don’t like driving like a "train" on a well-worn track. I saw a fork in the road and turned off the highway onto a less popular route. Some people need speed, but I want to see the life around me and get aesthetic and meaningful pleasure from driving. The road to Zolochiv has several significant places. The most famous are the Pidhirtsi Castle and the Church of St. Joseph. And then, I simply stopped on the shoulder of the road by an old cemetery. As it turned out, it was the outskirts of the village of Sasiv, which once held great importance for the whole district.

I opened the door and stepped onto a path between the graves. Further on, the stone slabs ended as I approached the broken monuments.
The horizon stretched out across a Polish cemetery, destroyed by time. I felt a bit afraid to keep moving forward, as if I might fall into the earth. Mounds, broken crosses, sinkholes. I walked past them, feeling a sharp fear on one side and the thrill of an open-air museum on the other.
A stop....
A breath...
The whisper of the grass.....
I read the inscriptions on the tombstones—Polish, Ukrainian—scratched into the sandstone back in the last century. I saw what is being eroded by time and passing into eternity. I could still read the names: Agapina, Franciszka, Halszka....
What were they like? What was their life, their family, their home? Did they feel love?
I ask myself, and immediately answer that it is no longer needed by anyone. Time has passed, grinding everything into dust. This is a story about how, in this place, one can notice how something once very important has passed into eternity.
I left through the other side of the cemetery gate. For a few seconds, I still felt the cold of the sandstone on my fingertips, but the sun was blazing directly from above, pulling me back into the rhythm of the living.

The engine hummed, and in that same internal state, I continued my drive. For some reason, the GPS decided I wasn't ready to burst into the city yet, so it wound my path around the High Castle. There, the streets are in a rustic style, twisting up and down, so narrow in some places that only one car can pass.
And it was so fun and interesting, because the road of life is never perfectly straight. My path leads me forward, and that is what matters most. As for eternity, I’m not in any rush to get there. Are you?
