[ENG-SPN] The Romanesque That Sleeps in the Sun / El Románico que Duerme al Sol

Speaking of small rural communities and cultural treasures little known to the general public, we also have, in the small village of Jodra del Pinar, a Romanesque gem from the late 12th century. Its dedication, Saint John the Baptist Beheaded, we believe doesn't do it justice, considering the pleasant sense of peace and harmony it conveys.

In fact, in the capitals of its elegant porticoed gallery with five bays, we have the feeling, as we did in the church of Cubillas del Pinar, that it was delicate Cistercian hands that imparted some of that natural calm, judging by the abundance of foliate motifs that characterize them and which also indicate the great knowledge that was possessed at that time of the surrounding landscape.

This theme is amply rewarded, since, looking out through the pleasant shade of the gallery's openings, one is treated to a delightful panorama of fields that absorb the farmer's sweat and are further revitalized by the vital warmth of the sun's rays, which gild them to the same color medieval painters used for halos of saints.

Hablando de pequeñas comunidades rurales y tesoros culturales poco o nada conocidos por el público en general, tenemos también, en el pequeño pueblo de Jodra del Pinar, una joya románica de finales del siglo XII, cuya advocación, San Juan Bautista Degollado, pensamos que no la hace justicia, en realidad, si tenemos en cuenta la agradable sensación de paz y armonía que transmite.

De hecho, en los capiteles de su elegante galería porticada de cinco vanos, tenemos la sensación, como ya nos ocurriera en la iglesia de Cubillas del Pinar, que fueron delicadas manos cistercienses las que transmitieron parte de esa calma natural, a tenor de la abundancia de motivos foliáceos que los caracterizan y que indican, además, el gran conocimiento que se tenía entonces del entorno.

Una temática, que, además, se ve ampliamente recompensada, toda vez, que, mirando hacia el exterior, a través de la agradable sombra de los vanos de la galería, se tiene una feliz panorámica de unos campos que recogen el sudor del labrador y se revitalizan, además, con ese calor vital de unos rayos de sol, que los hace dorar, hasta tener el mismo color que utilizaban los pintores medievales en los halos de santidad.
