It seems to me that the best way to test the skill level of a photographer would be to get him to take pictures on a smartphone. As they say, the master will shoot well on a matchbox – and it's true!

Many novice photographers write to me that their low technical level rests on a cheap camera.

I always answer that you need to practice the skill on the fact that there is a cool expensive equipment will not save the situation.

If I remember myself, then after buying my first DSLR digital camera, it was as if I had degraded or started over again.

Before the DSLR, I shot on film and on a mobile phone, and these were decent pictures.

And the DSLR did not give a sharp increase in the skill level.

It was only after years of honing the skill and squeezing all the possibilities out of the camera that I came to the technical threshold.

That is, after a few years, I realized that I lacked the capabilities of the camera and the lenses I had.

And now I'm at a level where I don't think about updating the equipment at all.

Yes, if I had the opportunity, I would buy for myself...I don't even know what...probably a 600+mm telephoto lens..

I've already had enough of the ultra-wide angle, the shutter speed of the camera is quite enough.

I want less noise on high ISO.

Let's return to the main topic of this post.

If a photo taken on a smartphone has a working composition, good colors or an interesting plot, then the photographer really knows how to shoot.

It's like a musician who is talented from God, will be able to play any instrument. I know them personally.

Or as an artist who can create a masterpiece on a dirty van with a finger and a wet rag.

Therefore, it is not necessary to chase after good quality equipment, you need to be happy with what you have and work out the skill on the existing equipment.

But, of course, if you start right away with a good camera, then you can work out the skill faster.

Here the point is different: you do not need to set the main goal in improving the quality of equipment, but you need to pump first of all the skill of vision, pump yourself.

I am also personally familiar with such photographers, whose cost of equipment is approximately equal to the cost of a good car.

But the quality of the material they give out leaves much to be desired.

And after updating the equipment, nothing has changed after many years.

Sometimes it seems strange to me the question "on what was filmed?".

It is better to ask "how?".
