A walk through the village of Colonia Carlos Pellegrini, Argentina
Carlos Pellegrini is just a small village with around 600 inhabitants, placed in the middle of nowhere it seems. It's quite a strenuous drive to get here, because of it's far from the two nearest cities Mercedes (to the south) and Posadas (the north). There is only one road connecting Carlos Pellegrini to those two. Most of it on a dirt road that's only accessible when it's dry. The bus tour from Mercedes takes 3 hours and the drive from Posadas takes about 4 hours. We started our journey in Posadas and had pre-booked the transport.The road was muddy, making it a challenging drive. So why did we want to visit Carlos Pellegrini? We wanted to visit the Esteros del Ibera National Park. This small village is one of the entrance points to the park that is home to the largest wetland area in Argentina and it's the second largest in South America. Rich in wildlife and one of the best places to get close to nature.
On our last day, after exploring the laguna and the wildlife, we did a walk around town. The town is small, but every house seems to be surrounded by a large garden / area with domestic animals. To walk one block therefore seems as walking a kilometer. All are dirt roads. The most amazing experience was to see domestic animals walk freely. This day we walked to the northern corner of town, to the cemetery. We passed several cows, horses, sheeps, chickens and geese along the road. Even the main reason to visit, is because of the wildlife, it's worth to take a walk along the streets in town.
Even it's a small place, there are lots of places to stay and plenty of restaurants too. Since Carlos Pellegrini is located by the border of Ibera Wetlands, there are lots of activities like walks along the shore of the lake. Boat trips and horse riding. We also did all the walks and saw lots of wildlife. In addition to a boat trip to get close to the wildlife like marsh deer, giant otters, monkeys, caimans, capybaras and more than 350 species of birds.
It you are looking for a small place where time seems to stand still, and at the same time feel close to nature, this must be the place.

Hola, vivo en Tres Lomas, un pueblo a 40 km de Carlos Pellegrini.
Oh, you live so clolse to Carlos Pellegrini! Then you know the place well, I think? Is that a very small place where you live? I know we passed some places consisting of a few houses, but didn't notice the name. But I liked very much the whole area, the atmosphere and the wetlands. Did lots of walks and boattrips.

Es un pueblo un poquito más grande de Pellegrini. Ambos son muy parecidos. Si un día llegan a volver y vienen a Tres Lomas, pregunten por los italianos, somos nosotros.

How interesting! I didn't know about any other small village on the strecth of road we drove. If we had been driving ourselves we would have had to study a map much better :) I spent three days in Carlos Pellegrini. Really like the place, the people, good food and the wildlife :)
Yes, here there are many small towns like these that only those who live in the area know about. The same Argentines who live in other provinces have no idea of the existence of these places, they are rural towns, quite isolated.
Here life is simple, nature, crops and animals, most of the people work the fields.
